'The Masked Singer' Season 14's 'Fear Night' unmasks the Croissant Duo, and sends another star home
Fox's long-running guessing game delivered big shake-ups during 'Fear Night', the second episode of 'The Masked Singer' Season 14, which aired Wednesday, January 14. The spooky-themed hour featured multiple reveals. It finally answered questions left hanging from last week's premiere while also sending another costumed celebrity home. The episode opened by resolving the cliffhanger from the season premiere, when Mr. and Mrs. Croissant were eliminated but not unmasked. Viewers learned that the celebrities hidden inside the matching pastry costumes were reality TV couple Todd and Julie Chrisley, as per PEOPLE.
The former 'Chrisley Knows Best' stars made headlines last year after receiving a full presidential pardon following convictions for tax evasion and bank fraud. The panel was split during the Croissants' brief run. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg correctly identified the pair as the Chrisleys, while Robin Thicke suspected 'Jersey Shore' personalities Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino. Ken Jeong guessed Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and Rita Ora believed the costumes hid Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag. McCarthy-Wahlberg's instincts ultimately proved spot-on.
With the Croissants' mystery solved, the competition continued with the remaining performers taking the stage for 'Fear Night'. One of the standout acts of the night was Le Who Who, who delivered a bold rendition of Blondie's 'One Way or Another'. Despite the confident performance, Le Who Who received the fewest votes from the studio audience and panel, making the character the next to be eliminated. When the mask came off, Le Who Who was revealed to be comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish. Rita Ora was the only panelist to guess correctly, while the others floated names including Keke Palmer, Leslie Jones, and Wanda Sykes.
Following her unmasking, Haddish shared her excitement about finally competing on the Fox series. She joked that 'The Masked Singer' was a show she had long wanted to do, even comparing it to another reality competition she's still hoping to conquer one day. Haddish quipped that "I've always wanted to be on 'Dancing With the Stars', but they said my career isn't where it needs to be. So when I guess where it needs to be, I get to be on there! I know I'd dominate on 'Dancing With the Stars' because I'm a dancing machine," as quoted by Variety.
Haddish also explained that her past helped prepare her for performing inside the bulky costume. She recalled serving as a high school mascot years ago, saying the experience gave her an unexpected advantage. 'Fear Night' also doubled as a promotional crossover for Fox's series ‘Fear Factor: House of Fear', which premiered immediately after 'The Masked Singer'. As part of the tie-in, 'Fear Factor' host Johnny Knoxville appeared as a guest during the episode. So far this season, three celebrities have been revealed: David "Big Papi" Ortiz as Googly Eyes, Todd and Julie Chrisley as the Croissant duo, and Tiffany Haddish as Le Who Who.
