Luke is a sophomore college student whose deep gravelly voice made him a huge star on TikTok amassing a whopping 1.9 million followers. But 'American Idol' isn't his first stint on television singing shows, prior to making his big debut on the ABC show, Luke was one of the contestants on FOX's 'I Can See Your Voice', where he was described as the carpenter who loves singing sea-shanty tunes. Sadly, Luke got eliminated in the first round itself but left everybody impressed with his unique voice.
In an interview with Philadelphia City Life, the young singer revealed how his deep voice leaves everybody surprised. "I freaked out my family. I looked at old recordings of myself and realized how deep my voice had gotten," he explained. No stranger to the stage, Luke sang in the choir and performed in various musicals while he was in high school at Garnet Valley. However, due to the lockdown. the youngster had to stay away from performing on stage in public. Missing his performance days, and out of boredom, Luke turned to TikTok. He admitted to the outlet that he initially joined the social media platform "as a joke" but everything changed once he filmed himself singing a song. The video became a viral sensation and was viewed more than six million times. Since then, Luke has regularly been posting various sea shanty songs on his page, while his popularity on the platform kept growing with each passing day.
The singer also explained why sea shanties, are suddenly becoming a rage on social media. "I feel like they’re very powerful songs,” he says. “People need strength nowadays. Hearing people come together to sing these songs is really unifying.” We can't wait to watch Luke's journey on 'American Idol' Season 20.
