'The Masked Singer' Episode 9 reveals High Voltage's identity as 'Care Bears Night' gets intense
Another singer said goodbye on ‘The Masked Singer’, and when the helmet lifted this time, the reveal left the panel shocked. Season 14 keeps throwing curveballs, and the ninth episode added another unexpected exit to the growing list of unmasked celebrities. The performer behind the costume, known as High Voltage, had managed to hang around for a while. However, the guessing game ended when former U.S. soccer player turned sports commentator Alexi Lalas stepped out from behind the disguise. And here’s the funny part: None of the judges guessed his identity.
Robin Thicke got the closest. He guessed former NFL quarterback Tom Brady, another sports figure who also works as an analyst for Fox Sports. Meanwhile, Ken Jeong guessed Travis Kelce, and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg went with retired wide receiver Julian Edelman. Rita Ora, on the other hand, threw out the name of actor and comedian Jason Sudeikis. So when Lalas removed the mask, the judges looked genuinely stunned. Before revealing his identity, High Voltage took the stage one last time to sing ‘Bad Day’ by Daniel Powter. Earlier in the season, Lalas showed off an eclectic setlist, bouncing between genres. He performed ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ by Tears for Fears, the country-pop collaboration ‘Miles On It’ by Kane Brown and Marshmello, and even sang ‘Paranoid’ by Black Sabbath.
'Care Bears Night' opened on a bright note. Contestants Pangolin, Pugcasso, High Voltage, and Crane launched into a cheerful group performance of ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves. Later in the episode, the competition got intense. When the votes were tallied, Pangolin and High Voltage landed in the bottom two. Notably, High Voltage found himself in the same situation the previous week. Both contestants had one last chance to stay in the game. They each performed their own version of ‘I’m So Excited’ by The Pointer Sisters in a showdown designed to convince the audience they deserved another shot. But in the end, the audience vote saved Pangolin.
That meant High Voltage’s run was officially over. With High Voltage gone, the list of remaining contestants is getting shorter as the season edges toward its later stages. Still competing are Pangolin, Galaxy Girl, Stingray, Cat Witch, Pugcasso, and Crane. If the past reveals are any indication, the show still has plenty of surprises waiting. So far, the celebrities whose identities have been revealed on ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14 include Jack Wagner, Heidi Montag, Billy Ray Cyrus, Teddi Mellencamp, Claudia Oshry, Taraji P. Henson, Tone Loc, Tiffany Haddish, reality TV personalities Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley, and baseball legend David Ortiz.
