Who is Darrell Moten on ‘AGT’? Magician surprises Sofia Vergara with fake Zoom callback trick
The latest ‘AGT’ Season 21 episode saw a series of unexpected events involving one of the contestants, Darrell Moten. According to the reality show’s recently updated format, the 24-year-old magician was chosen for the Judges’ Callbacks round. Sofia Vergara had chosen five acts for the round. This included Olivia Befus (Olivia and her dogs), Brook Lynn, Kameron Marshall, Darrell Moten, and Vahtang. While the rest of the participants were present for the Judges’ Callbacks, they soon noticed that Darrell had not yet arrived. Soon, the production team told Sofia that “someone” wanted to talk to her and handed her an iPad. She saw Darrell on screen. He told Sofia, “I’m so sorry. I couldn’t be there. I really just didn’t want to embarrass myself and I…I just but I couldn’t pass up on an opportunity like this though.”
Darrell asked whether he could perform his act via the screen. “Here, like, on Zoom in front of you guys, right now?” he asked. Sofia’s response was, “I mean, I guess. It’s not ideal, but you know…Okay, if you want to.” For the Judges’ Callbacks, Sofia was accompanied by guest advisors, Nikki Glaser, Lele Pons, and Sebastian Yatra. Darrell asked Sofia and Lele to choose “two completely random numbers.” Lele said 17, while Sofia chose 3. In the meantime, Darrell was already holding a cover in his hand from the beginning. Then, he pulled a card out of the cover, which had 17 and 3 written on it. Everyone was surprised to witness it.
The magician then told Sebastian to choose one of the two numbers; he chose 17. Darrell then showed the list of 100 things he wanted to do from “AGT’s $1 million,” which he wrote months ago. He then scrolled to number 17, which stated, “A yellow Lamborghini.” Suddenly, the iPad’s screen froze, and Darrell appeared on the frozen screen, noting that it was not a “Live Zoom.” To everyone’s surprise, he added, “It was a pre-recorded video from days ago where I guessed everything you guys were gonna say.” He then told Sofia to go to her front door and “check your driveway.” As everyone walked outside, Sofia saw Darrell sitting inside her yellow Lamborghini, which had the license plate “17.” Sebastian noted that it was “bad a**” while Nene said that it was “insane.” “That was amazing!” shared Sofia.
The acts Sofia chose to move forward to the Live Quarterfinals were Kameron Marshall, Olivia Befus, and Brook Lynn. Unfortunately, Vahtang and Darrell did not make it and were eliminated. Sofia spoke with each contestant when she revealed the results. She told Darrell, “You definitely showed us a different style of magic. But it got a little confusing.” She added, “And I think that you have like, a great future in front of you. But I’m gonna have to say no to you today. I’m sorry.” Even though Darrell was eliminated, he surely left an unmatched impression on everyone.
