Rian Johnson stunned the world in 2019 with an exciting murder mystery in the form of ‘Knives Out’. The movie, which sees Daniel Craig playing the role of Detective Benoit Blanc, turned out to be a gigantic hit and revived the genre of whodunnit. The film was a success for a lot of reasons such as epic storytelling, brilliant twists and turns, a star-studded star cast, and impeccable performances. However, a magnificent performance by Craig kept viewers at the edge of their seats and his character instantly became a fan favorite.

Blanc is an interesting character and pretty different from all the detectives that we have seen in the past. He is flamboyant, practical, has an attitude of a gentleman, and speaks really politely even though his accent seems to be pretty weird. However, that doesn’t mean that he is not a good detective. Blanc is intelligent, and clever, and has a knack for finding clues at places where no one would expect to find them. Now that the second movie in the franchise, ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, has finally been released on Netflix, director Rian Johnson has unveiled a surprising truth about Blanc’s life that has put all the speculations to rest.

In one of the scenes from ‘Glass Onion’, Johnson subtly talks about Blanc’s sexual orientation and didn’t shy away from taking a bold route. Well, if you haven’t seen the movie, we should say that there are ‘SPOILERS AHEAD’. So, the scene practically confirms that Benoit Blanc is GAY. Yes, you heard it right! The eccentric-looking detective is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and fans couldn’t be happier. However, the introduction of his boyfriend is pretty extraordinary and the actor who plays it will blow your mind. So, who is Benoit Blanc’s boyfriend, and which actor plays the role? Let’s take a look.

Who is Benoit Blanc’s boyfriend?

At the beginning of the movie, we see Daniel Craig’s character sitting inside the bathtub and talking to some people. At first, you’ll feel that he is working on a case, but it turns out that he was playing ‘Among Us’ with his friends such as Angela Lansbury, Stephen Sondheim, Natasha Lyonne, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They all tell him to leave his previous case behind and get out in search of more cases because that’s what drives him in life. While they are talking to each other, we get to know that someone is at the door and asking for Benoit Blanc. Interestingly, at the time, Johnson plays a trick and doesn’t introduce viewers to the person who opened the door.

Nevertheless, Blanc receives a maze that takes him on another adventure in Greece, along with some really affluent people. The entire movie takes place on an island and a man named Miles Bron has called all of them to solve his murder mystery. However, things go wild when an actual murder takes place on the island, and Blanc is forced to cancel his vacation in order to investigate the story. The film takes a lot of twists and turns as the mystery keeps on getting more and more intense.

The final concluding moments take us back to the time when someone came to Blanc’s door. As soon he rings the bell, Benoit loudly says, “Oh get that would ya?” to which a voice responds, “You’re not in the bath again, are you?” A man wearing a bright pink and green apron, who seems to be making something in the kitchen, opens the door and the courier guy hands him the maze. It turns out that the person who opened the door was Blanc’s boyfriend named Phillip and the aforementioned role is being played by none other than Hugh Grant.

The name of the character is revealed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the ‘Among Us’ scene where he tells Blanc that a guy named “Phillip” told him that the detective hasn’t left the bathroom for a week now.

The entire scene confirms that Blanc is in a relationship with Phillip and if anyone had some doubts then, Rian Johnson confirmed that the character is “gay” in a press conference held just after the Press Screening at the BFI London Film Festival. So, if you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a lover of ‘Knives Out’ movies, this comes as a huge win for the entire community.

As far as the movie is concerned, ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ is another knockout from Rian Johnson and a worthy sequel to the 2019 original movie. The script is clever, the characters are more relatable, and features a puzzle that's still very interesting. It's phenomenal, captivating, and absolutely thrilling.

Apart from Craig, the movie also stars Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline in pivotal roles.

‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ is currently streaming on Netflix.
