'American Idol 20': Katy Perry grills a pregnant Haley Slaton, fans say ‘you should be ashamed’

How often do you see a pregnant contestant managing to impress the judges on a singing reality show? Well, in a rare case, a contestant named Haley Slaton turned up at the audition on the fourth episode of ‘American Idol’ Season 20 and Katy Perry soon realized she was pregnant. Haley, who hails from Iowa, first crooned ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus which got Katy saying that her voice was raspy but something was missing.
 
Luke Bryan said that Haley's singing was not perfect adding that there were a few amateur moments but also real moments. Lionel Richie pitched in and added that holding a note might be difficult during pregnancy to which Katy agreed. Katy made her sing her a few lines twice but she felt something was still off. The pop princess then decided to give another shot to then heavily pregnant Haley who also goes by the name of Haley Miles on social media.  The aspiring crooner then went for Adele’s ‘One and Only’ which quickly got the social media users talking. The judges were left impressed as they handed her the golden ticket to Hollywood. For the unversed, Haley fell in love with her fellow participant Myles D Jordan. The couple tied the knot in December 2021 and welcomed their little bundle of joy in January 2022.

Speaking about Haley’s audition, one user stated, “You should be ashamed of what you made her go through. Very disappointed with the judges when she clearly had one of the best voices of the night. Pregnancy shouldn’t matter.” Another shared, “Haley can SANG Adele too! Of course! This one is a lil' better!” One user posted, “Really glad that the Judges gave Haley a chance. She's an inspiration to a lot of mothers out there. I like her personality and she can sing well.”
 
The next one posted, “Haley can SANG! What y'all talkin' 'bout?? And Katy having to think! Not one of my favorite songs by Miley, but still!” One stated, “Ya'll hear this girl, Haley, sing the blues on American Idol? I would buy her blues record but I never want to hear her sing The Climb again.” Another said, “It's gotta just be the pregnancy making them hesitant because Haley sounds better than most of the auditions the last few shows.” And, one user posted, “Haley for sure has lot of potential, hope she goes through. Feel she's doing much better with her second song.” One user concluded, “They are going to cut Haley early in Hollywood ... this is pr disaster.”
