'American Idol': Kelsie Dolin makes judges emotional, fans call her 'diamond in the rough'

Kelsie Dolin, an 18-year-old from Boone County in West Virginia, made the judges and fans emotional after her singing Kelly Clarkson's 'Piece by Piece' during her audition

There wasn't a dry eye in the room after Kelsie Dolin's 'American Idol' Season 20 audition performance. The 18-year-old from Boone County, West Virginia, picked Kelly Clarkson's 'Piece by Piece' for her audition performance. 

Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan were left feeling emotional after her performance. While showering her performance with praises, each of the judges made it a point to tell the teenager that's she's "worth it" and couldn't believe that she was sitting undiscovered in the mountains of West Virginia until now. When asked what prompted her to audition on the singing competition show, Dolin revealed that the audition advertisement kept popping up whenever she was browsing on the internet. She took it as a sign from her recently deceased grandmother, urging her to try out for the ABC show, so she signed up for the show.

Both the judges and fans couldn't believe how amazing her vocals were and were further bemused at her for being unaware of it. A fan tweeted, "#AmericanIdol Kelsie Dolin is exactly the kind of contestant I love..She’s literally clueless to how good she is and how good she can be..True definition of a diamond in the rough..Those boots though."

Another fan wrote, "Anyone who is rooting for Kelsie Dolan on #AmericanIdol … that feeling watching her perform is the same one teachers get *every day* w/ kids who have such raw talents & skills & you can see amazing things under the surface waiting to be brought out w/ effort & practice."

Fans got emotional as well while watching Kelsie sing. A fan shared, "Kelsie made me cry. The only one I like thus far #AmericanIdol."

"Omg kelsie was so good. I sobbed. She is why I watch #AmericanIdol," revealed a fan. "Well. Kelsie Dolan on American Idol had me in tears. This little girl needs to realize she’s got the goods. #AmericanIdol," expressed a fan.

'American Idol' Season 20 airs every Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
