LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Disney+ now has a new coming-of-age film for its diversified audiences. However, this time the streaming giant is offering a new coming-of-age film with a science fiction twist. It all started back in 2015 when a script written by screenwriter John Griffin found its way to the Black List, an annual list of the best-overlooked screenplays of the year. The script titled, 'Crater', then went to Disney after its successful acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Although Shawn Levy, known for directing commercially successful films like 'Night at the Museum' and 'The Pink Panther', was initially in talks to direct 'Crater', Kyle Patrick Alvarez was ultimately chosen as the director of Disney's new coming-of-age sci-fi thriller.

At it's core, 'Crater' is a heartfelt narrative that follows a boy raised in a lunar mining colony who decides to embark on a journey of exploring a mysterious crater with his three best friends and a new arrival from Earth before he is permanently relocated to another planet. But why is he adamant about going on such a dangerous journey? The young boy desires nothing more than to fulfill his father's last wish, which was to learn about this mystifying crater. To achieve his goal, he hijacks a rover along with his friends and rushes to learn the secret behind the crater.
