LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Crater', a Disney+ coming-of-age sci-fi adventure film, tells the story of a young boy born and raised in a lunar colony who, after the death of his father, takes over a rover with three of his best friends and another Earth visitor for one last adventure to discover a mysterious crater.

Kyle Patrick Alvarez, who previously directed episodes of Amazon's 'Homecoming' and Netflix's '13 Reasons Why', directs the live-action film, which is based on a script written by John Griffin. Executive producers include Emily Morris, John G Scotti, Rpin Suwannath, Gordon Gray, Paris Latsis, and Terry Douglas. Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen produce the sci-fi film under their 21 Laps Entertainment banner.

What is the plot of ‘Crater’?

'Crater', one of the most anticipated sci-fi adventure films from Disney+, follows a young boy, Caleb O’Conell, who was born and raised in a lunar mining colony somewhere in the galaxy. It is the only place he has been familiar with since birth, but when his father, Michael O'Conell, dies, he finds out that their dome will be relocated to a faraway place, making it impossible for him to make it back to the crater. Caleb starts thinking about everything his father told him about his desire to explore the universe beyond his house, particularly a crater.

Caleb decides to explore the dome with his three best friends Dylan, Borney, and Marcus, as well as Addison, who recently arrived from Earth, and the group steals a rover and embarks on an adventure of a lifetime to learn more about the crater and what awaits them. The question is whether these young children will arrive safely at their destination or not. What kinds of adventures will they have along the way? The potential presence of a new arrival from Earth raises the possibility of more complex issues of identity and acceptance in Crater, the type of underlying concepts that are crucial for the success of a film of this caliber.

When and how to watch ‘Crater’?

'Crater' will be available on Disney+ exclusively on May 12, 2023.
