Red Velvet can be considered as one of the biggest girl groups in the K-pop industry. Having debuted in 2014 under SM Entertainment, they’ve had several viral songs like ‘Dumb Dumb’, ‘Bad Boy’ and ‘Psycho’. They’ve topped charts domestically and internationally like Billboard and iTunes and have won several awards at MAMA, AAA and Golden Disc Awards. They’ve also been acknowledged by the likes of Time, Forbes and Spotify as influential artists. This is why fans are angry as they believe that the group seems to be fading away under SM.

They had their last comeback in 2019 after which it seems like they were put on a hiatus of sorts. Reveluvs (their fandom) were happy when it was announced that Red Velvet was finally coming back after almost two years with their sixth K-pop mini-album, ‘Queendom’. They went on to get seven music show wins right till September and constantly topped charts like Gaon, MelOn and iTunes. ‘Queendom’ also entered Billboard’s charts and got them their first entry on Global 200.

Red Velvet’s ‘Queendom’ era ends quickly

However, fans claim that Red Velvet’s label, SM Entertainment, has not been doing its job to properly promote the girls. Most artists’ comeback period lasts for months with a barrage of content like behind-the-scenes footage, variety shows, interviews and music show performances. Unfortunately, for Red Velvet and their fans, the ‘Queendom’ era ended quite soon. And since then, even the group has disappeared. Reveluvs feel that this happens during every album release and have decided to create a petition asking for better management for the girls.

‘It starts hurting to watch’

Fans have been trending #TreatRedVelvetBetter and #WhereIsRedVelvet in hopes that SM will notice them. One angry fan tweeted, “Well said. SM keeps ignoring Red Velvet & ReVeluv to the point it starts hurting to watch. The girls are successful & doing great but the company is not bringing any effort to the table. Not even doing the bare minimum that’s why we have to complain every fcking day to get that.” Another added, “Queendom era just passed by like 'nothing' happened? no dance practices, variety shows and lack of promotions?? ya'll better treat Red Velvet well!”

One said, “Where is red velvet.” Another commented, “They are so happy when they're on stage, bring our girls back, their name is Red Velvet in case you forget.” “Red Velvet has remained as one of the most successful KPOP girl groups for 7 YEARS despite that company disrespecting them time and time again, we are NOT letting them get pushed aside,” said another fan. One Reveluv explained why they were upset, “I guess SM or other fandoms won't understand us, Reveluvs. They may think that we r too dramatic or demanding, but as a Reveluv who witnessed how that sh!tty company mistreated RV, I will say this. NO, YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND US.”
