Red Velvet's Yeri gets a chance to sing her very first OST, that too in her first K-drama 'Blue Birthday'

After years of waiting for Red Velvet's comeback, Reveluvs are suddenly introduced to a barrage of content. The girl group has come back with their album ‘Queendom’ after almost two years and fans showed their appreciation by making it an instant hit. The girls are also doing pretty well in their individual careers as seen with Yeri releasing her very first OST (original soundtrack) ever. Not only that, the OST is for her very own K-drama ‘Blue Birthday’.

2021 is a year of firsts for Red Velvet. We had Joy announce her first public relationship with R&B singer Crush of P Nation. She is also returning to the acting scene with the K-drama ‘Only One Person’. Then we have Wendy who is set to become a regular cast member for the SNL Korea reboot and also has her own radio show SBS’ ‘Youngstreet’. Even Seulgi got a new radio show with Naver Now’s ‘Seulgi.zip’.

Yeri sings her first OST

‘Queendom’ has gone on to set personal records by making Red Velvet the second most pre-ordered album by a K-pop girl group. It was also #1 on several charts like Bugs, Genie and iTunes in 50 countries. The title track of the same name also got four music show wins. And fans are aiming to get similar achievements for Yeri’s OST.

Reveluvs were excited when it was first announced that the maknae (youngest) of the group, Yeri, had landed her first acting gig by playing the main lead in the K-drama ‘Blue Birthday’. Starring opposite Pentagon’s Hongseok, the drama made waves with the idols’ chemistry as a couple, as well as the sci-fi/fantasy premise, that had viewers hooked from the go.

And while the other Red Velvet members and the group as a whole have lent their voices for OSTs, Yeri hasn’t had a solo OST since her debut. But that was remedied when it was revealed that she will be singing ‘It’s You’ for ‘Blue Birthday’. It is the fourth OST of the drama and is actually a cover of Colde’s original song ‘It’s You’. The 'It's You' OST was released on September 2 on all major music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, MelOn and more.

'You deserve the whole world'

Excited fans ended up trending #BlueBirthday and Yeri as they hyped up the OST. One Reveluv tweeted, “This is her first ost i'm so proud.” Another added, “OUR PRINCESS YERI RELEASED AOST FOR THE FIRST TIME !” One posted, “You deserve the whole world, Yerimie! We hope that you continue to receive more opportunities like these.”
