Minju Kim in 'Next in Fashion' Season 1
In Season 1 Episode 2, the teams were pushed to create using a variety of prints and patterns, as well as come up with their own designs if they so desired. They had one-and-a-half days to outfit a male and female model. Elizabeth Stewart, a famous designer, returned to show her support for the judges. Minju Kim and Angel Chen won the task in this episode by showing the judges their own spin on the prints. Kim won the Streetwear task and celebrated with Angel Chen in Episode 4.
The teams, like in the previous tasks, had a day and a half to design two looks, one for a female model and one for a male model. For the semifinals, the final four designers had to perform a denim task. Denim, one of the most famous fabrics in the world, can be made into casual apparel, business attire, and other items. It may also make a unique expression. Each designer was assigned a male and female model and was needed to showcase two denim designs that complimented one another.
Denim offers unique challenges in terms of getting the cut correct and offering something the judges haven't seen before. The task was won by Minju Kim and Daniel Fletcher, while Ashton Hirota and Angel Chen were ousted. The final two designers, Minju Kim and Daniel Fletcher, finished an entire 10-piece collection in three days for the Grand Finale, where they demonstrated their skills to the judges.
Every day, each designer was assigned a crew of three sewers, who were not allowed to advise on original ideas. They are also told that the 10th appearance must be a strong show-stopper. They got a bonus when family members came suddenly to the conclusion. Kim was inspired by Frida Kahlo, a painter renowned for her numerous self-portraits and works affected by her native Mexico. She eventually came out on top.
Where is Minju Kim now?
Kim launched her own brand, Minjukim, in 2015, with offices in Seoul. She is known for starting her runway shows with a design that includes a core, original pattern that is continued through the rest of the season. Galaxy Express 999 influenced a design from her Fall 2018 line. In addition to her yearly assortment releases, Kim has designed clothing for BTS and Red Velvet. She is also a design professor at Kookmin University.
The designer also received the 2013 H&M Design Award and then designed a capsule collection for the retailer. She was named one of the finalists for the 2014 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. Kim collaborated with the H&M Group-affiliated company & Other Stories in 2021. The Minjukim collection, her line's debut, was the most famous and quickly ran out. The limited edition was available for purchase in nations around the globe, and the Korean online store sold out in an hour.
Minju Kim is still busy with her brand Minjukim, and her Fall/Winter 2022 line was released last year. The company has its own main shop in South Korea, which, according to her Instagram profile, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 1 pm to 7 pm. She worked with the brand & Other Stories in 2022 for the Spring/Summer season, which featured dreamy patterns and playful colors. Accessories such as printed hosiery, eyeglasses, scrunchies, and hair clips are also included in the selection.
Minju Kim won a large cash prize and debuted a collection on Net-a-Porter after winning the show. Her line, which includes skirts and dresses, is still available on the Net-a-Porter website.
'Next in Fashion' will drop the new 10-episode season on March 3 only on Netflix.
