Where is Gordon Thornton now? 'RHOP' husband reveals mental illness that led to split from Mia Thornton
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Get your cryangles ready. 'The Real Housewives of Potomac' Season 8 Reunion, Part 3, will soon air, and viewers will finally get an update on our Potomac hubby (or ex-husband), Gordon Thornton.
Part 2 concluded with Andy Cohen bringing out the husbands. The gentlemen of Potomac showed up in style, ready to stand by their wives and offer their support.
Gordon was gearing up to make a statement at the end of the second reunion segment, suggesting that many of us had "suspected" what was to come. However, Bravo's tease had led us to believe this surprise would be revealed in Part 2, leaving viewers feeling misled.
Finally, on Sunday's episode, airing on April 14, Gordon bravely opens up, revealing, "I have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Bipolar I."
Further explaining the difference between bipolar and bipolar I, according to Gordon, is "the degree of manic". As Gordon continues to explain the intensity of his illness, Mia Thornton breaks down.
Gordon cites how having a bipolar disease "causes your mind to really work opposite." He goes on to explain how his mind deceived him into believing, "You're normal."
Gordon revealed that he was diagnosed two and a half years ago. He then realized he had had this since his early 20s and continued to have episodes throughout his life. He acknowledged that things took a turn for the worse, particularly as he gained more power and wealth.
According to Gordon, even though he missed the signs, Mia could see them, but he didn't listen to her at that point, which further impacted their marriage.
Gordon Thornton doesn't remember locking 'RHOP's Mia Thornton in a room
When Andy asks Gordon if the manic episodes led to him badmouthing Mia on a group chat with his fellow Potomac husbands, Gordon explains that his actions were fueled by his frustration and anger at the time, leading to exaggeration.
However, when Gordon is grilled about locking Mia in the room and taking her phone away, he denies the former.
He said, "I don't remember locking her in the room, I remember taking her cell. Part of what happens when you're in mania you really don't remember everything. So, I'm not saying I didn't. I don't remember locking her in the room, I did take the cell phone."
Where do Gordon Thornton and Mia Thornton stand today?
Gordon further expressed to Andy how Mia "has been absolutely wonderful."
He shared that they have both forgiven each other, and he firmly believes, "If I had gotten control of this manic behavior sooner, Mia would still be with me." He doesn't think she left him because she wanted to be somewhere else, "she left me because she couldn't take this anymore."
Gordon recalls that when things got bad, he had to check himself into a hospital, and "next day, guess who was there? Mia!" She isited him almost every day.
When Gizelle Bryant inquires about Gordon's future now that Mia is leaving him, Mia reassures everyone that she will always take care of him. Gordon further assures everyone that he is doing okay and understands "how to control it now."
'RHOP's Gordon Thornton says he is 'cordial' with ex Mia Thornton's beau Inc
Speaking of Mia's new boyfriend, Inc, Gordon said that he shares a cordial relationship with him. Gordon admits to recognizing how his actions have pushed Mia away.
At the 'RHOP' Season 8 reunion, Mia and Gordon appeared to be on good terms, but Inc wasn't pleased to see the ex-partners chatting. On Sunday, April 7, the radio personality posted a selfie of himself and Mia on Instagram Stories, captioned "This is what should have been on RHOP TONIGHT!!!"
Mia reshared Inc's comment on her own story, saying, "Love you, My Inc."
Inc may not have attended the 'RHOP' reunion in person, but he appeared online when Mia FaceTimed him during the cast's lunch break. During the call, he managed to catch up with Gordon.
Gordon started the discussion by asking, "Hey, Inc., how you doing man?" They then engaged in a small chat. Inc. even told Mia "love you" in front of her ex.
Part 3 of 'The Real Housewives of Potomac's' eighth season reunion will premiere on Bravo on Sunday at 8 pm ET/PT, and it will stream on Peacock the following day.
