Shannon's relationship with her daughters Lauren 'Pumpkin' Elfird and Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson has been jeopardized by the family's highly publicized court battle. Additionally, Alana has remained in the headlines for different reasons since her dramatic custody battle. Although Alana has reunited with her mother Shannon, she has not moved in with her.

Alana, the youngest daughter of Shannon whom she shared with her ex Mike 'Sugar Bear' Thompson, had a tough childhood. Alana moved out of her mother's house when she was just 12, taking the toughest decision of her life after struggling with Shannon's behavior. Shannon was a drug addict at the time and wasn't able to give proper care to her daughter. However, Pumpkin then took temporary custody of Alana after Shannon was arrested on possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia charges alongside her boyfriend Eugene 'Geno' Edward Doak, who had a third-degree domestic violence charge. Pumpkin then became the legal guardian of Alana in 2019 and won full custody of her half-sister in June 2022. Alana currently lives with her sister Pumpkin and her husband Joshua Efird in Gordon, Georgia. Alana will reside at Pumpkin's house until she turns 18 in August 2023. She has been dating Dralin Carswell since 2021 and recently graduated from high school.

Alana's custody ruling came three years after Shannon was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance. Shannon is allowed to contact Alana via telephone every day but visitation rights will be determined by Alana's legal guardian Pumpkin. Additionally, Shannon has to pay Pumpkin $800 per month in child support until Alana turns 18 years old. Pumpkin admitted in the latest preview of 'Mama June: Family Crisis' that she and Alana haven't talked with Shannon since the legal battle. However, Shannon has continuously tried to contact her daughters and it seems like she has happily reunited with them. In a now-deleted post, Alana happily posed with her mom Shannon for her prom photos.
