Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams will be sharpening her hatchet, but it will be a minute before 'Wednesday' fans get to see what she does with it. Earlier, Netflix dropped a major production update for Season 3 of the much-awaited hit horror-comedy series. As big as the update is, the news is still a bummer for fans who caught season 2 last year in two installments. The streamer released a video announcing the cast, and the end of the video had a message that the series was in production. However, no timeline or date was released. Safe to say, it will at least be another year before we get to see more of Wednesday and her journey.

Season 1 of the series was released in November 2022, but the second season came after a three-year break in August 2025. The show was renewed for a third season in July 2025, well before Season 2's premiere. At the time of writing, the casting stage is on, with production underway in Dublin. While a summer 2027 release window is considered one option, chances are the new season will follow the same path as the second run and target a mid-2027 release.

As a quick refresher, Season 2 ended with Wednesday reading the journal of her long-lost Aunt Ophelia (Eva Green in Season 3). She is seen pulled into a psychic vision, which gives a glimpse of her aunt in a dark room, alive and well. She is later revealed to be in Grandmama’s basement, writing 'Wednesday must die' on a wall.

"Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world," showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Miller said in an interview with Tudum. With Green set to play the key driver in Season 3, the plot will likely center on her relationship between Ophelia and Wednesday. Given the two's shared characteristics and psychic connection, it remains to be seen whether her aunt is indeed a foe. The Addams family will be in for a shocker with their long-lost relative showing up.

"I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia," Green said in the same interview. "This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family."

Furthermore, Season 3 updates include 'Stranger Things' alum Winona Ryder joining the cast as Tabitha. She joins Green, Noah Taylor ('Peaky Blinders'), Oscar Morgan ('A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'), and Kennedy Moyer ('Task') in a guest role. One of the major teases this upcoming season is the appearance of more Addams family members. With Ophelia already coming in, there is no doubt that her past will also see more members introduced on the show.

'Wednesday' Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.
