'Stranger Things' star reunites with Jenna Ortega in 'Wednesday' Season 3 and we're pumped for this reunion
The Tim Burtonverse now has a familiar name in the fold. 'Stranger Things' star Winona Ryder will reunite with the legendary director for a fifth project in 'Wednesday' Season 3. Directed and written by Burton, the Netflix supernatural comedy series follows the life of the character Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), created by Charles Addams.
Ryder joins 'Casino Royale' star Eva Green, who plays Ophelia, the sister of Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Ryder is set to appear in multiple episodes as Tabitha. Her character was revealed in a previous video announcing the start of Season 3's production, where a dinner table was seen with place cards for new and returning cast members. Based on the letter 'B' on the top of each card, Tabitha comes in alongside new faces Oscar Morgan (Atticus), Kennedy Moyer (Daisy), and Noah Taylor (Cyrus).
Rounding up the cast are Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), Billie Piper (Isadora Capri), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Sheriff Ritchie Santiago), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), Evie Templeton (Agnes DeMille), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), Joanna Lumley (Grandmama Hester Frump) and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester).
The veteran actress is coming off playing Joyce Byers in 'Stranger Things', which finished its fifth season recently on the streamer. 'Wednesday' creators/showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar expressed their excitement about Ryder joining the series. "When it comes to Outcasts, Winona Ryder is the GOAT," Gough and Millar said, per Deadline. "Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters. We loved collaborating with her on 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' and couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore."
"I am so happy that Winona has joined us; she fits right into this world," Burton continued. "And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her." Ryder has starred in four of Burton's films, namely 'Beetlejuice,' and its sequel, 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice', 'Edward Scissorhands', and the animated feature, 'Frankenweenie.'
'Wednesday' follows Ortega's titular character as she attempts to solve a murder at her new school in Season 1. The second instalment takes a darker turn as he tackles another mystery at Nevermore Academy. With a stalker tracking her every move and family drama, Wednesday's life takes a tough turn. The horror series has been well-received by critics and fans. Season 1 saw a healthy 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Season 2 saw another major spike with a whoppinh 87%. The series garnered immense praise for the storyline and impeccable cast performances by Ortega and Zeta-Jones. 'Wednesday' was renewed for Season 3 well ahead of the second edition's release.
At the time of writing, production is underway, and there is no official timeline for when the series will hit the streamer. Seasons 1 and 2 were in November and August, respectively, with a gap of three years between the two. The third season is likely to be released in one of the windows, as the previous seasons.
