‘High Potential’ finale to air earlier than expected and fans are frustrated for all the right reasons
'High Potential' follows Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillory, an intellectually gifted single mother and cleaning woman who finds a new purpose in life after being recruited as a police consultant. Combining her unique powers of observation and deduction, Morgan is almost always single-handedly able to solve complex crimes. She is aided in her efforts by Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), Selena Soto (Judy Reyes), Lev "Oz" Osman (Deniz Akdeniz), Daphne Forrester (Javicia Leslie), and others.
Despite winning the hearts of countless viewers, the sophomore season of 'High Potential' has had a rather erratic release schedule. Although the second installment expanded with 18 episodes as compared to the debut season's 13, 'High Potential' Season 2 entered its mid-season break from November 2025 to January 2026. The second installment disappointed the audience when it returned from its hiatus with just five new episodes before going into another hiatus in early February. New episodes then released in March, and ABC recently announced that the sophomore season of the show will air its finale on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
This timeline gives the show a much shorter run, as compared to other popular titles such as 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Will Trent' on ABC. As expected, the early finale didn't sit well with fans, many of whom took to the r/HighPotentialTVSeries subreddit to voice their dissatisfaction. One user commented, "I thought it was odd they aired the Mother's Day episode in March, when Mother's Day is around May 15th - about 6 weeks ahead. Wonder if they expected more breaks?" Another wrote, "That the season is ending so soon is ridiculous."
A third user lamented, " I hate that we'll have to wait for October for more episodes!" while another stated, "Makes me wonder if they wrote it initially expecting a January to May schedule like the Rookie. Perhaps they ended up moving it up, not the first time that a network plans have been screwed up by a pilot not going as they thought." Although ABC didn't come forward with an official reason for the break in the broadcast of 'High Potential' Season 2, it is widely believed that the network did so to avoid a clash with NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics. However, the show didn't return once the Winter Olympics concluded, and was once again delayed due to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address. Regardless, there's a glimmer of hope as the show has already been renewed for another season.
