'St. Denis Medical' will soon welcome another doctor on board. The NBC show is all set to host Damon Wayans as a guest star, according to TV Insider. The 'Saturday Night Live' alum will reportedly play Dr. Highland, a charming but pompous doctor replacing Dr. Ron for the time being. For those unaware, Dr. Ron, played by David Alan Grier, underwent a serious triple-bypass heart surgery, which he survived. As he recuperates, Highland will take over his responsibilities. Most of the hospital staff will quickly warm up to Highland except for Alex, the supervising and head nurse of the hospital's emergency department.

Though Wayans is a newcomer in the show, he has one friend on the cast. Both he and Grier were castmates in the popular Fox show 'In Living Color.' NBC revealed Wayans' character and released a first-look photo. Wayans is set to feature in the premiere episode of Season 3, which will air on November 2, 2026. Along with 'In Living Color' and 'Saturday Night Live,' the celebrated actor is also known for his roles in 'My Wife and Kids' and 'Lethal Weapon.' His big-screen credits include 'The Last Boy Scout,' 'Major Payne,' and 'Blankman.'

Though there's no official logline for Season 3 yet, it is expected to follow the interesting equation between Ron and Joyce (Wendi McLendon-Covey), especially after his accidental post-anesthesia confession. Wayans' character will also, in one way or another, impact the already interesting hospital dynamics. The series synopsis states that 'St. Denis Medical' is a mockumentary set in “an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.” The mockumentary features an ensemble cast led by Allison Tolman alongside Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, David Alan Grier, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi. The show is slowly but steadily becoming a mainstay in primetime television.

The network was ecstatic to renew the mockumentary alongside another comedy, 'Happy's Place.' “Both St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place have delivered comedic brilliance over their first two seasons, truly connecting with our audience with hilarious characters, and remain hugely important and successful programs to our primetime and Peacock lineup,” said NBC and Peacock’s President of Scripted Content, Lisa Katz. Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin co-created the series. Ledgin also serves as the showrunner for the mockumentary.  More Bees, Inc. and Spitzer Holding Company remain on board as producers, while Simon Heuer, Bridget Kyle, and Vicky Luu have been billed as executive producers. All episodes of 'St. Denis Medical' are currently streaming on Peacock.
