In 'Mr. Throwback' Episode 5, Danny's father Mitch took the fall for Danny. He visited Stephen and said that he coerced Danny to lie to him because he needed money.
In the sixth and final episode, Danny plays along, garnering sympathy from Dr Josh, Stephen, and Kimberly (Ego Nwodim).
When Kimberly learns the truth from Deb and confronts Danny, Stephen doesn't believe her and asks her to leave.
Later, at the celebrity basketball game, as Danny addresses the crowd, he comes clean about his lie. He admits that whatever happened to him in sixth grade, he has been using it as an excuse for all the horrible things he has done in his life.
Disheartened and angry by Danny's betrayal, Stephen punches him.
Is celebrity basketball game called off in final episode of 'Mr. Throwback'?
No, the game isn't called off. Instead, Stephen's punch goes viral and garners more donations than anticipated.
Stephen's charity fund raises $22 million for the research of Paediatric disease. So even though Danny's daughter wasn't ill, this donation eventually helps those actually battling the disease.

As Danny returns Stephen's jersey, Kimberly offers him a chance to apologize directly to him. Wondering if it was even possible, Kimberly says that the team is heading to Paris for Olympics 2024 and she needs interns to assist her.
