Shemar Moore returns as Hondo in ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ as first-look images tease explosive action
'S.W.A.T.' fans are in for a treat as Sony Pictures Television has shared exclusive first-look images from its spinoff series, 'S.W.A.T. Exiles' on February 18. The 10-episode action drama series will showcase Shemar Moore's Daniel 'Hondo' Harrelson leading a new team of recruits with troublesome pasts. So far, fans have only been teased with behind-the-scenes photos and cast images, but this is the first time they get to see Moore and his team in action.
The plot details have been kept under wraps, as of this writing. But we know who will star as Hondo's motley crew of recruits. The new series regulars of 'S.W.A.T. Exiles' include Ronen Rubinstein as Jude Reddick, Adain Bradley as Malik Henderson, Zyra Gorecki as Cassidy Han, Freddy Miyares as Ethan Cole, and Lucy Barrett as Samantha Bishop. S.W.A.T. favorite Jay Harrington will guest star as Sergeant David ‘Deacon’ Kay, so will Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks, and David Lim as Officer Victor Tan. 'Goliath' star Lenora Crichlow will appear as a recurring guest star, while Selma Blair and Jerry O’Connell are cast as guest stars.
The official logline sets the stage for the offshoot series: "After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel 'Hondo' Harrelson is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance, experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is."
When CBS cancelled 'S.W.A.T.' after Season 8 in March 2025, Sony announced its spinoff series two months later in May at the L.A. screenings without securing a U.S. domestic deal. Things didn't change until February 10, when the police drama wrapped up production. Hence, dropping the images ahead of Sony Pictures’ 2026 showcase at the London TV Screenings next week is a great move to boost its chances of securing international buyers for distribution ahead of its release.
'Lucifer' screenwriter Jason Ning serves as the showrunner and executive producer of the series alongside Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, James Scura, Jon Cowan, and Moore. Ning drummed up excitement for the series, ''Exiles' honors everything audiences love about the original: big, epic action and adrenaline. But it pushes it into more personal territory. This time, it’s not just about what happens on the streets of L.A., it’s about what it costs the people in that stack. Pairing a battle-tested leader like Hondo with a generation that challenges him at every turn creates real friction and real evolution.
