House of the Dragon’s cryptic post hints Season 3 trailer may be dropping soon: ‘There will be...’
Ever since the sophomore season of 'House of the Dragon' concluded back in August 2024, anticipation for the 'Game of Thrones' spin-off show has been at an all-time high. The prequel show 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', which is currently ongoing, provided 'GoT' fans with some respite by taking them back to the world of Westeros. In a surprising turn of events, the social media accounts of both 'Game of Thrones' and 'House of the Dragon' recently dropped cryptic posts that have sparked speculation that the third season of the latter show is imminent, with an announcement just around the corner.

Both of the said X social media accounts added new posts on February 17, 2026. The 'Game of Thrones' handle went with "There will be no mercy... #HOTD Season 3." and 'House of the Dragon' account posted the words, "We march now towards our annihilation... #HOTD Season 3". Soon after being posted, these lines spread like wildfire among the fandom, and the comment box was buzzing with speculation surrounding the impending release of the spinoff show's third season.

In keeping with the established practices of PR and marketing deployed by all the major networks, the 'Game of Thrones' franchise relies on marketing campaigns to build up on the hype before the release of a new installment. Thereafter, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to surmise that the aforementioned social media post could be part of a larger publicity campaign undertaken by HBO. The third season of 'House of the Dragon' was confirmed, along with other original programming by Casey Bloys, CEO and Chairman of HBO, back in November 2025 during the network's press presentation in New York. "We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe," commented HBO‘s Head of Drama Series and Films, Francesca Orsi, in an interview with Deadline. She further added, " Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be."
If one were to speculate, the marketing campaign leading up to the release of 'House of the Dragon' season three would likely wish to utilize the momentum created by the conclusion of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', which airs its sixth and final episode on Sunday, February 22, 2026. If the events unfold as can be expected, an official release date and teaser trailer for the upcoming third season dropping on February 22 or 23 might be on the cards. Ofcourse, in the absence of any official confirmation, this remains speculative. 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' is exclusively available on HBO Max.
