NBC plans a surprise for 'Chicago PD' fans after Winter Olympics and honestly we're counting days
From February 6 to 22, NBC's primetime programming schedule is taken over by the Winter Olympics coverage, prompting shows from the 'One Chicago' universe to go on hiatus. 'Chicago PD,' 'Chicago Med,' and 'Chicago Fire' all aired their last episodes on Wednesday, February 4, and will resume their schedules directly on March 4 with a three-hour crossover event. However, fans were left wondering about the schedule for February 25, as the Olympics will be over by then, and NBC has not scheduled any new episodes for the last Wednesday of this month. Well, we've the answer.
NBC's primetime listings show that the network plans to air the repeat telecast of the premiere episode of 'Chicago PD' Season 13 at 10/9c on that day. Titled 'Consequences,' the episode's synopsis, as per NBC's listings, reads: "Voight teams up with an unlikely ally to take a killer off the streets while fighting to bring his Intelligence unit back together." The episode will follow the encore presentation of 'The Voice' Season 29 premiere, which starts at 8/7c. Thus, the police procedural drama will return to the small screen a week earlier than the other two shows, but not with a brand new episode.
The decision to replay the first episode of 'Chicago PD' Season 13 may be a smart move on the network's part, as the series has regularly lagged behind in ratings among other 'One Chicago' shows, partly due to its 10 p.m. timeslot. Furthermore, this move may help the series gain more visibility among viewers of 'The Voice,' one of NBC's biggest unscripted shows. Despite the show's comparatively low ratings, the overall 'One Chicago' trio is hugely popular, reaching almost 32 million viewers across platforms this season. It also holds the top spot for dramas in total viewers and the adults 18-49 demographic. All three Chicago series are produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.
Fans who want the complete dose of One Chicago shows will have to wait till next month. On January 21, NBC announced that the One Chicago crossover event, featuring 'Chicago Fire,' 'Chicago Med,' and 'Chicago PD,' will debut on Wednesday, March 4, from 8 to 11 p.m. ET. The Windy City heroes will join forces after a passenger jet goes missing mid-air, but their rescue efforts will devolve into a greater crisis. The event will begin with the Chicago Fire at 8/7c, then move on to 'Chicago Med' at 9/8c, and end with the 'Chicago P.D.' at 10/9c.
Viewers can watch the latest episodes of 'Chicago Med' at 8 p.m., 'Chicago Fire' at 9 p.m., and 'Chicago P.D.' at 10 p.m. on Wednesday nights on NBC.
