Before the era of viral crime podcasts and OTT docuseries, 'America's Most Wanted' made its debut on February 7, 1988, and concluded its initial run on June 18, 2011, on Fox.

Subsequently, the show found a new home on Lifetime, continuing until March 2013. The decision to cancel the show was influenced by factors such as low ratings and disputes over royalty payments with Fox, which held the trademark and copyright.

In 2011, 'America's Most Wanted' experienced a revival on Fox with journalist Elizabeth Vargas as the host.

The revamped series featured dramatic enactments of dangerous fugitives portrayed by actors, complemented by interviews and the distinctive voice narration of John Walsh. The show aimed to engage viewers in the pursuit of justice by highlighting individuals on the run from law enforcement.
