'Chad Powers' Season 2 gets promising update amid Michael Waldron's new deal
The co-creator of Hulu's sports comedy series, 'Chad Powers,' has provided a major update on the upcoming season. Michael Waldron recently renewed his deal with 20th Television, the studio behind the comedy series. As per the deal, Waldron would continue to write, develop, direct, and produce content for both streaming services and linear networks across Disney Entertainment Television, the parent company of 20th Television. He was involved with major projects such as 'Loki' and 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' before founding Anomaly Pictures in 2023 with his producing partner, Adam Fasullo.
President of 20th Television, Karey Burke, showered Waldron with praise. "Michael Waldron brings a creative tenacity to every project he’s involved with that’s truly contagious. His unique voice and passion permeate all of his work, and he elevates everyone around him. We couldn’t be happier that he will continue to call Disney and 20th Television his creative home for the years to come." Waldron co-created 'Chad Powers' with lead star Glenn Powell. The story follows the same route as 'Ted Lasso,' taking a television skit and turning it into a major series. This particular show is inspired by former American professional football quarterback Eli Manning's skit on 'Eli's Places,' in which he disguised himself as a walk-on quarterback candidate. In the show, Powell's character, Russ Holliday, a disgraced quarterback, disguises himself with the help of a prosthetic mullet, mustache, wig, and nose to join a small school team. To complete his identity, he adopts the name 'Chad Powers.'
Waldron is credited with writing, producing, and directing four out of six episodes of the first season. As per Deadline, Waldron teased the return of the series while talking about his deal renewal. "I'm proud to continue my partnership with the home team at Disney,” he said. “Dana [Walden], Craig [Erwich] and Karey are great collaborators who take chances on wild ideas. Speaking of which, I’d like to use this opportunity to remind you to tune into Chad Powers Season 2, coming to Hulu this fall!"
Powell received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in season one. Expectations for the story, after the high-stakes and cliffhanger-heavy finale, are high. Besides Powell, the show also stars Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez, Perry Mattfeld, Clayne Crawford, Colton Ryan, Keese Wilson, Xavier Mills, and Quentin Plair in prominent roles. All six episodes are available for streaming on Hulu.
