‘Ted Lasso 4’ release window finally revealed as Apple TV+’s star teases a ‘whole different deal’
After months of “is it happening?” the return of ‘Ted Lasso’ is finally coming into sharper focus. And if one very excited cast member is to be believed, fans might want to circle August on their calendars. The update slipped out in the most casual way possible. Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, was chatting with Deadline on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards when she offhandedly dropped a release window for Season 4. She teased that the upcoming chapter feels like a “whole different deal,” especially “with our Lady Greyhounds.”
When the conversation shifted to timing, Waddingham offered a clue. “August, I think,” she said, then quickly glanced off to the side and asked, “Am I allowed to say August?” She then hedged her bets: “What if I’m wrong?” But once the month had slipped, there was no going back. Laughing it off, she repeated, “I think it’s August.” And yes, there’s a big twist this time around: Coach Ted is heading back to Richmond, but instead of returning to the men’s side, he’s taking charge of a second division women’s football team.
At the center of it all, of course, is Jason Sudeikis, who stars as the relentlessly optimistic American coach. He continues to guide the creative direction behind the scenes. He has reportedly mapped out a multi-season arc for this next stretch, similar to how the original three-season run was structured, as per Deadline. That means Season 4 isn’t just a one-off victory lap. There’s a bigger plan in motion. Though only the fourth season has been officially approved so far, Waddingham made it crystal clear she wouldn’t mind sticking around for years. According to the publication, she joked, “I’d do it until I’m walking on a Zimmer frame when I’m 80.” And honestly, fans would probably tune in for that.
Production is already underway in London, bringing back several familiar faces. Alongside Waddingham and Sudeikis, returning cast members include Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift. Their characters became comfort food television for many viewers. And then there’s the new blood. Season 4 adds Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsey, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely to the roster. Fresh faces mean fresh storylines, and with Ted stepping into women’s football, the tone is expected to shift in many ways.
