The film was originally titled 'The Interpreter' which made sense given the plot, but the title was later changed to 'The Covenant'.

The film isn't just about one man helping another; it is also about how John Kinley's severe trauma causes amnesia in a foreign country and all he can do is trust Ahmed and his own eyes to retrace his steps to safety. The exciting premise has guaranteed viewer interest, especially after the exhilarating trailer dropped. The movie digs deep into how sometimes humans are left with no option but to trust a stranger in a strange land and that trust is returned manifold. The movie also documents the relentless game of attrition with the Taliban, loss, grief, trauma, and everything else associated with the war in Afghanistan.
