‘Wednesday’ beats 'Stranger Things 4' Netflix record, racks up the most hours viewed in a single week
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Wednesday' has been ruling the charts of Netflix since its release on the streaming giant. It has amused the audience with its spectacular storyline and the ensemble cast's mindblowing acting, especially Jenna Ortega who has been seen as the titular character of the Netflix series, Wednesday Addams. Along with being one of the most talked about series recently, 'Wednesday' has recently broke a record. The series saw a viewership of 341.2 million hours in its first week, soaring to the top of the TV charts. The figure marks the most hours viewed in one week for an English-language TV series on the streaming platform.
Although that is not all, 'Wednesday' also broke the records of one of the most highly anticipated series on Netflix, 'Stranger Things 4', which was released earlier this year. Ortega's 'Wednesday' premiered on November 16, 2022, and was released on Netflix on November 23, 2022, to generally positive reviews by critics. It is created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who recently promised to showcase more of the Addams family in the next season although it has not been renewed for a second season.

The new series featuring Ortega now holds the record for the most hours viewed in a week for any English-language TV series on Netflix. Impressively, that beats 'Stranger Things 4,' which previously held the title. At its peak, the first seven episodes of 'Stranger Things 4' notched 335 million hours viewed in their first full week on the service (and second week in the Top 10). The current all-time record holder is 'Squid Game' with 571.8 million hours viewed in its peak week on Netflix.
'Wednesday' has landed in the Top 10 in all 93 countries included in Netflix’s data tracking, and it claims the No 1 spot in 83, tying with 'Stranger Things 4.' Netflix’s data shows that more than 50 million households have watched the series since its premiere on November 23, 2022.
The series follows Wednesday as she enters high school at Nevermore Academy, where she becomes acquainted with her burgeoning psychic abilities, and later as she attempts to solve the murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years prior. Aside from Ortega, the show also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia, along with Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, and more. Christina Ricci, who depicted 'Wednesday' in Barry Sonnenfeld’s original 1991 'Addams Family' movie, also appears in the series.
However, '1899' remains second on the English-language TV series list in its first full week of availability with 87.89 million hours viewed (a slight jump from last week’s 79.27 million figure), whereas 'The Crown' was knocked to third place, notching 42.36 million hours viewed, and 'Dead to Me Season 3' took home another 33.3 million hours viewed.
'Wednesday' is available to watch on Netflix now.
