'Van Helsing' Season 4 may see Vanessa face unprecedented threats with only her ancestor Lily for back up

Blood and lives will almost certainly be lost and even if the vampires are somehow beaten back, there are more threats on the way.

Over the course of the show's three seasons, Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) has faced many a threat that seemed undefeatable. She has invariably taken them all down, often with nothing more than her finely honed skills and the powers that make her a living weapon against the undead. However, 'Van Helsing' Season 4 is going to test the extent of Vanessa's abilities as she faces threats on a whole new level, one that might just prove to be too much for even two Van Helsings to handle.

Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger with Julius (Aleks Paunovic) going up against Scab (Rowland Pidlubny) and the Sisterhood while Vanessa and her newly resurrected ancestor from the turn of the 20th century, Lillian Van Helsing (Julie Lynn Mortensen), being confronted by Sam (Christopher Heyerdahl), who is now an Elder vampire. The situation looks pretty hopeless and it is unlikely that either Julius or Vanessa can get out of their respective predicaments unscathed. Blood and lives will almost certainly be lost and even if the vampires are somehow beaten back, there are more threats on the way.

More than anything else, Vanessa is bound to be weighed down by the guilt she feels for the death of her sister Scarlett Harker (Missy Peregrym) in Season 3. Not to mention, it was her choice to not deliver the killing blow to Sam back when he was still human and which allowed him to become the monstrous vampire lord that he is now. All the blood he has spilled, all the people he has killed since then, all of that is bound to have an impact on Vanessa as she gears up to take him down once and for all.

The one thing that Vanessa has going for her this season is the invaluable assistance that Lily may be able to provide. Though she might find waking up in the present a bit disorienting, as the granddaughter of the legendary Abraham Van Helsing, Lily is bound to know a lot of secrets about vampires and the Van Helsing lineage that could come in handy in both escaping Sam and taking down his master the Dark One, the one and only Dracula (Tricia Helfer).

'Van Helsing' Season 4 will premiere on Syfy on September 27.
