Octavia Spencer is set to return as Poppy Parnell in Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series ‘Truth Be Told’. The series did not receive positive reviews from critics, but it turned out to be successful among viewers and created its own fan base.

Season 1 of ‘Truth Be Told’ revolved around Poppy, a true-crime podcaster, who is called to investigate the case of convicted killer Warren Cave (Aaron Paul), a man she painted as the murderer of the father of identical twins. However, things get wild when he says that he is being framed for the crime.
Poppy embarks on a journey to find the real killer as she must decide where the lines between guilt and innocence lie.

Season 2 of ‘Truth Be Told’ will be premiering exclusively on Apple TV+ on Friday, August 20 at 3 am EST. You can live stream the series on Apple TV+. Plot

“Descend into the world of true-crime podcasts. This NAACP Image Award-winning mystery anthology drama series stars Octavia Spencer as podcaster Poppy Parnell, who risks everything—including her life—to pursue truth and justice. Kate Hudson joins Octavia Spencer for the new season of this gripping mystery. Based on the novel by Kathleen Barber, “Truth Be Told” provides a unique glimpse into America’s obsession with true crime podcasts and challenges its viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is placed on a public stage.”

A lot happens during the season finale of ‘Truth Be Told’. We see Poppy helping Josie remember the night of the murder. She starts having flashbacks of her sister burying a sharp bird ornament and manages to find it in the woods. She then has another memory where she realizes that she was the one who stabbed her father that night.

However, she and her twin sister giving statements to the police and revealing her mother was responsible for the murder. With this confession, Warren (Aaron Paul) is free and hurries off to reunite with his mother while both Josie and Lanie discuss what happened.

Lanie admits that she gave those pills to her mother. However, the police were listening and arrested her.

Cast

Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer will be back as Poppy Parnell in Season 2. Spencer is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors of this generation and she has the credentials to prove it. The actress has received three Oscar nominations and won in the Best Supporting Actress category for ‘The Help’. She has one Golden Globe and three SAG Awards to her name as well.

Joining her this season will be Kate Hudson, who will be portraying the role of Micah Keith. Hudson needs no introduction and has given stellar performance in several projects. The actress has received one Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for ‘Almost Famous’. For her role in the movie, she won a Golden Globe in the aforementioned category.



 

Other actors to appear on the show are Mekhi Phifer (Markus Killebrew), Christopher Backus (Holt Redding), Tracie Thoms (Desiree Scoville), and Haneefah Wood (Cydie Scoville).

Creators

The series is created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman and is based on the novel ‘Are you Sleepin’ by Kathleen Barber. Apart from Spencer and Spellman, notable personalities like Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Mikkel Nørgaard serve as executive producers on the show.
