Treasure initially seemed like YG Entertainment’s favorite boy group but the recent actions from the label have taken its fandom, Teumes (Treasure Makers) by shock. On May 28 it was announced that two out of 12 members of Treasure were going on an indefinite hiatus and the boy group would now be performing as 10 members only. Not only that but it was also announced that a new Treasure comeback was in the books as the boy group was going to make a comeback this summer while also hinting at a second solo concert from Treasure.

Fans were essentially taken aback by the announcement that not one but two Treasure members were going on a hiatus but what hurt fans most was the fact that YG Entertainment had not informed fans first like labels are usually supposed to do via the group’s or the label’s Twitter handles. Fans of YG Entertainment groups have time and again called out the label for mismanaging the groups that the label handles. Currently, Knetz are infuriated by the long hiatuses from Blackpink and Winner while the sudden news about Treasure acts like salt to their wounds.

Treasure’s Yedam and Mashiho to go on a hiatus

The press release announced that Treasure’s Yedam (Bang Ye-dam) and Japanese member Mashiho will both be suspending their activities temporarily and go on a hiatus from activities as members of the boy group for an indefinite period. The label clarified the reason behind both members’ temporary departures from Treasure as they stated that Yedam decided to focus on studying music for some time as he wanted to further strengthen his production capabilities.

The label also added that the reason behind Mashiho’s hiatus is very different from that of Yedam. YG Entertainment stated that Mashiho has some health complications and needed rest for a long period in order to recover. This is why Mashiho moved to Japan on May 15 with his family for a while until he recovers. The announcement caught fans off-guard as the label did not give fans any prior indication about Mashiho’s health or any update about the member's departure.

YG Entertainment said, “After sufficient discussion with the Treasure members, we decided to give the two members more rest, so we ask for your understanding and support from the fans.” With this, Treasure will continue its activities as a 10-member group with Hyunseok, Jihoon, Yoshi, Jungyu, Jae-hyuk, Asahi, Doyoung, Haruto, Jeongwoo, and Jeonghwan.

Treasure to make a new comeback this summer

Besides the news about the two Treasure members, Yedam and Mashiho’s respective hiatuses, the label also announced that the boy group would be making a speedy comeback after the release and success of their first mini-album, ‘The Second Step: Chapter One’ that released in February 2022. YG Entertainment announced that the 10 active members of Treasure will be releasing a new album this summer and will follow the release with their second solo concert immediately after that.

Fans however are blindsided by the label because of the lack of updates the label delivers about Treasure. Back in March of 2022, YG had announced follow-up activities for Treasure’s b-side song 'Darari’ that was supposed to start from mid-April but the activities did not go as promised by the label. The fact that ‘Darari’ promotions had been canceled had to belatedly be communicated to fans by Treasure members directly.
