Will there be 'The Wilds' Season 3? Fans share two cents on why show needs new installment

With an open-ended Season 2 finale, 'The Wilds' fans are already calling for a season renewal

After its sophomore season, 'The Wilds' tossed another curveball. And fans believe the Amazon Prime Video YA series merits a second installment, promising an even wilder experience.

The season's last episode ended with a startling disclosure that the girls — and now, guys — had returned to the island from which they thought they had been released. Rather than navigating survival on their own, the two groups of adolescent islanders were suddenly forced to work together to survive. Gretchen (Rachel Griffiths), who was now practically on the run, gave the shocking news to the teens via megaphone in the last minutes of the season after they discovered they had been duped. When they opened the facility, they were greeted by a strange scene: familiar island flora and a calm sea. Isn't that the case?

Even without surveillance on the island, Gretchen has sights on the youngsters in the guise of moles, as she later tells her henchmen on the plane. (Remember, she attempted to enlist Leah's help.) After all, as she proclaimed Phase 3 to be fully operational, getting them all to that level was all part of her plan. Seth (Alex Fitzalan), the attractive Ivy League jock, is apparently one of those moles, as he smirks while pressing play on a tape recorder and playing music over the loudspeaker. Is he the only one collaborating with the enemy, or are there others as well? What happens now that Leah and her other survivors have returned to the island they thought they'd abandoned?

Season 3 is almost certain to happen after such an open-ended season finale. Although the showrunners have yet to make a formal announcement, the season finale suggests otherwise. The most fascinating aspect of a prospective season would be watching Gretchen's ideas come to fruition. She went to a girls' island and a guys' island. Now she'll smash them all together, thereby proving her point even further. So, if they blow up, as she hopes, she'll have truly proven her gynotopia point. And, of course, the fun for us has been watching the qualities and shortcomings of these individuals on their own islands come together and see how that will impact interactions with others. We already know they're on an island. They are aware of what has been done to them. As a result, they're no longer in the woods about what's going on.

Fans are already requesting a season renewal on social media. Some took to Twitter, writing: "Me scrolling Twitter for the first time in almost a year after pulling an all nighter to watch all of #TheWilds season 2 bc it’s wonderful show and realizing I’ll have to wait for season 3 with MORE questions and theories… IT’S SO DAMN GOOD I NEED MORE"

With the new season dropping just a day ago, rumors of season 3 is already spewing across the internet. One of the fans wrote on Twitter: "i heard a review describe season 2 as the “transition” season, and i think that’s really accurate. i 1000% need season 3 #TheWilds "

Fans are almost too eager to stream the entire season in one day to get their hands on a new season, or at the very least get a nod from Amazon. One fan described their experience as: "Ok well I just finished season 2 and all I can say is what the f*ck??? if it doesn’t get renewed for a season 3 i will lose my shit bc so many things will be left unanswered . my mind is blown #thewilds" 

Another "wild" fan begged others to stream the show in the hope for confirmation on the renewal. The tweet read: "PLEASE STREAM THE WILDS ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO. I NEED THE SEASON 3 RENEWAL SECURED"
