Blake Shelton, who has won ‘The Voice’ a record eight times, first got Wendy Moten and Jonathan Mouton to open the premiere of the knockouts of the singing reality show’s 21st season.  He later brought two of his other strong contenders in the form of Hailey Green and Libianca. The two locked horns in order to grab a coveted spot in the Live playoffs.

While Hailey Green, who also tried her luck for ‘The Voice’ in Season 19 at the age of 14, crooned her mentor Blake’s song ‘God’s Country’, Libianca opted for Billie Eilish’s hit single ‘Everything I Wanted’ to mesmerize the coaches and the audience. For the uninitiated the knockouts allow the judges to steal the contestant who fails to win the round. We also saw Ed Sheeran making a guest appearance on the singing reality show on Monday, October 25. He landed on the show as Mega Mentor where he assisted the coaches in giving helpful pointers to the singers.

Blake Shelton picks Libianca, Hailey Green gets no steals

Hailey Green was the first one to perform followed by Libianca. Ariana Grande got the shivers during Hailey’s set as she gave her a standing ovation throughout her performance. Libianca, on the other hand, showed her prowess with her strong high-pitched vocals. Despite Ariana showing much love to the teenager, she leaned toward Libianca in the end. “Hailey, that was brave of you to sing the one and only Blake Shelton’s song right in front of him”, said Ariana. Following her footsteps, John Legend too said he would go for Libianca.

Kelly Clarkson, on other hand, was the only coach, who rooted for Hailey. In the end, Blake picked Libianca as the winner. He added that he was “heartbroken right now”. The legendary country musician said that it was “soul crushing” to choose between the two. Hailey, unfortunately, was eliminated as the rest of the judges refrained from stealing the singer. Libianca, on the other hand, will advance to the Live playoffs.

‘Blake Shelton, you made a horrible mistake’

The fans of ‘The Voice’ were in for a shock after Blake picked Libianca as the winner. They clearly felt Hailey performed way better than her opponent. “Libianca knew she got beat. Did yall hear her say omg right b4 @blakeshelton picked her? What a terrible attitude”, said one user as another added, “So, was I the only one that literally had an existential moment during #Libianca ‘s performance? Like the earth shifted or something? I needed more exuberance from the judges on this one.”

The next one tweeted, “Ummmm.....can someone explain to me what just happened? Haley made the hair stand straight up on the back of my neck like a reincarnation of Janice Joplin and @blakeshelton chose Libianca????? I'm sorry but squinting and hand waving does not = better performance!” One user posted, “Blake gives the win to LIBIANCA and she goes to the Live shows --- UGH I THOUGHT HAILEY would be STOLEN but she's NOT and her second journey on the show ends in disappointment (hopefully we haven't heard the last of her).” One person added, “Why would Blake pick libianca hailey could've easily of won the whole thing.” Another stated, “Hey @blakeshelton you made a horrible mistake. HAILEY killed it & you know it.” And, one concluded, “Wow this is my biggest shock of the season so far, i loved both and didnt mind Libianca going through but i was sure someone would steal Hailey cause she could go very further.”
