LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Steven Knight's ongoing espionage thriller miniseries 'The Veil' introduces viewers to the fascinating world of intelligence services and exposes what truly goes on behind the scenes to maintain national security in the face of a terrorist threat.

The series, produced by FX Productions, centers around Imogen Salter (Elisabeth Moss), an experienced MI6 agent entrusted with uncovering the true identity of Adilah El Idrissi (Yumna Marwan).

As the story unfolds, both women pretend to be friendly while working towards their respective goals, creating a high level of suspense in the plot.

The characters in the series are as intriguing as the plot of the series sounds. So let's rank the characters according to their impact and influence,

1. Imogen Salter

Imogen Salter, played by Elisabeth Moss, deserves to be at the top of the ranking list due to her great skills and sharp mind. Imogen knows how to get things done, and she isn't afraid to break rules, even if it means earning the ire of her superior.

She is also intelligent enough to cross sides and work for the intelligence service, which she believes will help her achieve her own goals. Her personality combines strength, vulnerability, intelligence, and resilience, making her relatable and appealing.

Her backstory adds depth to her character, leaving viewers wondering why her father, Marcus Seabright (Phill Langhorne), died and why she resents her mentor, Michael Althorp (James Purefoy).

Overall, Imogen is the embodiment of a shrewd and intelligent woman who deserves to be at the top of this ranking list.

2. Adilah El Idrissi

The second spot on the ranking list belongs to none other than, Adilah El Idrissi, a fascinating character steeped in mystery.

The miniseries' narrative revolves around the question of whether she is a victim of circumstance or the brutal ISIS commander, Djinn Al Raqqa?

Although there have been numerous clues and indirect mentions of her affiliation with the deadly terrorist organization, viewers are waiting for a straight announcement that will shed light on her true identity and her motivations for joining ISIS.

Also, Adilah's friendship with Imogen appears genuine at times, but it's important to remember that she may be seeking Imogen's help to protect her daughter Yasmina (Keyla Bara/Neyla Bara).

3. Max Peterson

Just like Imogen, the crafty CIA agent Max Peterson (Josh Charles) is playing his cards carefully, attempting to uncover the true identity of Adilah in order to prevent a terrorist assault on America.

In other words, Max can be defined by his patriotism, for which he does everything possible to protect his country's security.

His squabbling with French intelligence agency DGSE's agent Malik Amar (Dali Benssalah), exposes his childish side and reveals the clever agent's vulnerability.

Furthermore, there are numerous signs that he has a far more complex backstory that still haunts him, which should be explored in a spin-off focusing solely on him.

In the end, Max deserves to be ranked third because of his smart and strategic intellect, unique character development, and great performance from Josh Charles.

4. Malik Amar

Malik Amar, Imogen's boyfriend and an agent with the French intelligence agency DGSE, plays an important role in the miniseries' storyline.

In the intricate world of espionage, Amar feels like a breath of fresh air, as he enormously encourages Imogen and showers her with trust, even if she sometimes works of her own will, catching Amar off guard, but he still has faith in her.

Furthermore, in Episode 4 of the series, it was hinted that Imogen and Amar share a secret that ties them on a deep level, which could be disclosed in the miniseries' concluding episode.

Overall, Amar deserves to be ranked fourth thanks to his sharp intelligence and deep-rooted relationship with Imogen, adding a dimension of romance to the plot, which is usually packed with thrill and action.

5. Emir

Although nothing much is revealed about Emir (Alec Secareanu) in the series, he still holds an important part in the storyline.

Emir is seen plotting the anticipated attack on American soil and is shown in constant contact with Adilah, hinting that the two have a deep-rooted relationship that could be much more than just ISIS associates.

Also, little is known about Adilah's daughter Yasmina's father, which could be explained by the possibility that Emir is the little girl's father, and he and Adilah share a romantic relationship.

The reason for Emir not being number one is simply because nothing much about his past.  Further, his motivations regarding the planning of the terrorist attack are established which makes viewers less connected to his character earning him the last spot on the ranking list.
