Contains spoilers for 'The Veil' Episode 1
ANKARA, TURKEY: With Steven Knight's compelling miniseries 'The Veil' on Hulu, get ready to be engrossed in a world of global intrigue and shocking secrets.
The series offers a convoluted web of secrets and hidden agendas that will keep you guessing right up until the very end as Adilah El Idrissi's (Yumna Marwan) real identity is still shrouded in mysteries.
On the other hand, Imogen Salter (Elisabeth Moss), a determined agent, is determined to uncover the truth behind Adilah's real identity.
However, as the episode progresses, complications arise, further aggravating the confusion about Adilah's true identity.
Imogen Salter struggles to uncover the truth behind Adilah El Idrissi's real identity
At the beginning of the episode, the refugee woman viciously assaults Adilah, calling her the ISIS leader. This sets the tone for the upcoming mystery regarding Adilah's real identity.
Later, Imogen encounters an injured Adilah and gives her the idea that she will be taking her to the camp in Turkey so she can submit a claim for repatriation.
Throughout the episode, there were hints of uncertainty regarding Adilah's true identity. For example, DGSC official Magritte (Thibault de Montalembert) is seen talking with Agent Malik Amar (Dali Benssalah) about the possibility that Adilah is ISIS commander Sabaine al Kubaisi, who is also a shape-shifter.
Imogen is given the task to find out if Adilah is Sabaine or not and in doing so she makes every effort to discover Adilah's true identity but is unable to uncover any significant evidence linking her to the dreaded ISIS commander.
Who is Adilah El Idrissi?
During a conversation with Imogen, Adilah reveals that she used to model in Paris before getting involved in drugs and men, which led her to join ISIS.
Furthermore, she claims to have helped Yazidi women imprisoned in captivity escape, and she is currently on a hit list of fighters who will murder her if she reaches the Edip Koi refugee camp, where Imogen was taking her.
Given that ISIS commander Sabaine is also referred to as a shapeshifter, Adilah's claim to be a model in Paris may actually be a well-crafted lie. If she is Sabaine then she is capable of lying and manipulating situations to suit her own interests. There's a chance that Adilah is using the whole story as a carefully crafted web of lies to further her own objectives.
It's reasonable to presume that the enigmatic vibes Adilah is giving aren't simply the result of an innocent woman being misled; rather, there may be a deeper mystery at play.
Another possibility is that DGSE, MI6, and possibly other foreign players are using Adilah as a pawn in a bigger game.
Using Imogen and Adilah as gullible pawns in their global power struggle, each agency manipulates the situation to suit its own interests.
Overall, 'The Veil' made a strong debut, and with only three episodes remaining, it will be interesting to see who Adilah truly is.
