LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO Max's original 'The Last of Us' has once again managed to break the hearts of the viewers with its recent episode, sending the audience once again into weeping fits. The episode titled 'Endure and Survive' introduced us to two new characters, Sam and Henry. They, along with the original duo Ellie and Joel, were seen planning to escape Kansas City. But the plan goes horribly awry and the episode ends in a heartwrenching way.

After the emotionally draining third episode and a hopeful fourth episode, fans were not expecting such a devastating episode quite so soon. 'The Last of Us' is regarded as one of the most faithful adaptations of the game of the same name and it stars Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams. Episode 5 introduced  Lamar Johnson as Henry and Keivonn Woodard as Sam.

'Endure and Survive'

Episode 5, titled 'Endure and Survive', sees the quartet Ellie, Joel, Sam, and his big brother Henry, who would do anything to protect his brother. The group is trying to make its way out of Kansas City. During this episode, we see Ellie and Sam bonding and connecting as friends and doing normal children's activities like playing football, reading comics, and laughing! However, their fun is short-lived when they are almost caught by Kathleen and Sam gets infected. Sam reveals this only to Ellie and the next morning Sam transforms and attacks Ellie, only to be shot accidentally by Henry. Shocked and grief-stricken, Henry shoots himself. Ellie and Joel bury the brothers, with Ellie writing 'I'm sorry' on Sam's magic board.

'The ending was still hard to watch'

Ever since the episode was dropped, fans have converged online to share their pain about the ending. One fan commented, "the last of us was so great but the ending was depressing…Episode 5", while another fan commented, "The ending of episode 5 of #TheLastOfUs Bruhhh ". Another chimed in with their opinion regarding the ending of the episode by saying, "The Last of Us Episode 5… so good the ending was still hard to watch", while another added, "The Last of Us episode 5 ending deadass had me crying bro". 'I’m just in shock. Again'

One fan became extremely emotional regarding the ending of the episode and added, "I’m just in shock. Again. I haven’t felt intense emotion after a show, movie, game since the ending of Hellblade. Last of Us is such a sad but incredible masterpiece. Episode 5. Damn." While another fan added, "The #lastofus episode 5 got me in tears The ending is so freaking sad. Ripped my heart out". One fan said, "I just finished the last of us episode 5… oh gosh the ending was so heartbreaking #tlou".
