If there’s one thing unique about this hit medical drama on ABC, it is the writers' incredible prowess in shaping every character and making them equally important as the lead one. Yes, Freddie Highmore is essentially the showstopper, but that doesn’t stop other important characters from proving their worth.

In the episode ‘Fixation’, Dr Alex Park’s character came to limelight and showed us that his role could become more prominent and important in the upcoming season. Here’s why.

For those who have just tuned into ‘The Good Doctor’, you might want a little background on this senior surgeon at St Bonaventure Hospital. Dr Park is an ex-cop who worked in the force for 15 years, but then decided to dedicate himself to saving lives. He has seen the best and worst of people that makes him cynical, highly cautious about his own actions and a little withdrawn from social life. His personal life is not that great either, but owing to his reclusive behavior, we don’t know much about the same, except that he is separated from his wife, Mia and has an estranged, teenage son.

However, this sublimely indifferent surgeon showed us a new side to his character in the episode ‘Fixation’. We saw his fatherly side, when his son, Kellan was caught vaping on the hospital premise and brought to him. This was the first time we saw Dr Park as anything else other than a medical professional. From reprimanding his addict son like a father to offering moral support as a friend, his character reflected a very refreshing angle and huge growth.

The interaction between him and son also revealed certain traits about the man himself. He might be a great surgeon and an excellent professional, but he had been detached from his family, much before he left them. His workaholic nature kept him at bay from his family responsibilities and proved why his marriage failed.

This is a huge revelation for a significant character like him and this shows that the writers have a lot in mind for Dr Park in the future. And that future is not far. With news of the show’s renewal for Season 4, we expect to see more of Dr Park and this particular episode in discussion gives us a promise that his character might see more development.

‘The Good Doctor’ Season 3 continues to air every Monday at 10 pm/9c on ABC.
