'The Good Doctor' Season 3 star Will Yun Lee teases that Shaun's love life will remind you of 'your first crush'

"We start to see a friendship between Alex and Shaun developing and it's just an interesting juxtaposition of characters because they couldn't be more opposite from the outside," says Will Yun Lee.

Everyone’s favorite autistic surgical resident, Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), is returning to our TV screens on Monday, September 23, and this time around we will get to see something he has never experienced before – love. The show promises to be more entertaining than most love stories, seeing as he has no filter, and always blurts out the truth.

A star of ABC's 'The Good Doctor', Will Yun Lee relays to MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), "It's almost like getting to go back to your own memories when you were in high school or middle school and you like get your first crush and you get to actually see it onscreen with someone who says what he thinks and doesn't understand all the rules."

He adds, "That's kind of how it was when I first started getting a crush on somebody and so we get to see that in a really fun and honest way with his character." He further promises that the showrunners have approached the subject in a "really fun, honest and heartfelt" way.

The other characters on the show certainly seem to have quite a bit of stake in his love life, as we saw in the trailer for the upcoming season three. Everyone wants to see Shaun be as successful in the romance department as he is in the medical field.

One person who is characteristically indifferent is Lee's Dr. Alex Park, who likes to keep his personal life personal, and certainly away from his colleagues. However, we will see Shaun and Alex get closer this season, promises Lee.

"We start to see a friendship between him and Shaun developing and it's just an interesting juxtaposition of characters because they couldn't be more opposite from the outside. [But] they are kind of the more close to the vest when it comes to their personal life and what they talk about in the hospital," says Lee.

He adds, "In this season, the first couple of episodes you start seeing that these two become closer as friends and share with each other more. [They are] two characters who are closed off and they find a weird comfort with each other."

We are certainly excited for the fruition of this camaraderie, which the show will explore when season three premieres on Monday, September 23.
