'The Flash' season 6 preview: Nora's death, Bloodwork and the 'Crisis' are set to make things challenging for Barry Allen

The trailers and promos of The CW superhero show have been nothing short of explosive and the recent full-fledged trailer sees Barry Allen prepare a team who could do without him

Grant Gustin's Barry Allen has his work cut out for him. Team Flash has had a tumultuous ride in the previous season and the upcoming installment has already hinted it won't be making things any easier for the Scarlet Speedster. Even before we go up to 'Crisis', Barry needs to swallow the grief of having lost his daughter, Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy). He has a formidable foe in Dr. Ramsey Russo aka Bloodwork, and then there's the 'Crisis' that he has to somehow pull through.

The trailers and promos of The CW superhero show have been nothing short of explosive and the recent full-fledged trailer sees him prepare a team who could do without him. The trailer brings back familiar faces, including Michelle Harrison's return as Nora Allen (or Earth-3 Joan Garrick),  Bloodwork, Breacher. However, there is no tease of Godspeed, just yet.

Showrunner Eric Wallace has been playing his cards close to his chest and has let out as minimal info as possible. Gustin himself teased the Flash's death during the San Diego Comic-Con, and from all the footage we have seen from season 6 so far, it is evident that the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) will appear in the season opener, 'Into the Void' and foretell Barry's fate.  There's a new Harrison Wells that we have already seen. He's angry and he looks like he's a man ready for action rather than assist team Flash sitting behind a desk.

In addition, the trailer also provides a look at Killer Frost's new costume and we also see the time vault looks like it's about to explode. There are quite a few unexplained subplots that would make sense only when the season premieres and zooms along. Here's the list:

The Negative Flash and the Negative Speed Force

The Negative Flash in season 6? (DC Comics)

Recently, new photos have emerged that hint at the appearance of the negative Flash. The images show Barry struggling while his suit seems to have changed color. His fingertips too, seem to be turning black. While it is all speculation at this stage, the usage of black undertones may likely hint at Barry turning into the Negative Flash. According to comicbook, in the comics, Barry becomes the Negative Flash because of Eobard Thawne's Negative Speed Force, an extra-dimensional negative energy field that ultimately eats away the regular speed force.

The arrival of Godspeed

Last we saw, Nora had managed to pin the speedster down. It's still unclear how he escapes the future.

Jay Garrick's hat and the visions of the future

We didn't know the hat could give visions. The probable working theory could be that this was an ability acquired with all the constant time traveling and the Speed Force and maybe Barry realizes that the hat is the key to giving him a glimpse of what the future has in store. It’s possible this links him up to the Speed Force as he tells his friends, through tears, that he saw "billions of countless futures, billions of deaths.”

Caitlin Snow's character arc

As far as relationships go, Snow is one person who's constantly faced trouble when she shatters. Take for instance her fiancé, Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) who dies trying to aid Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) aka The Flash. This was followed by another broken relationship with Hunter Zolomon aka Zoom (Teddy Sears). She had a brief romance with forensic scientist Julian Albert, which ended after Caitlin's metagene awakened and her life was taken over by her murderous Killer Frost persona.

Now, the relationship angle comes to the fore again with Dr. Ramsey making his way to Team Flash. The two have been old pals before and will his departure on bad terms from Snow makes her go dark again?

Cisco and Kamilla's relationship

Cisco relinquished his breaching abilities as he felt he would be of better help to Team Flash behind the desk. And, there's that story about his love interest as well. Will it all work out for the tech genius? Despite all the grit and grim storylines, expect doses of humor. The season as we all know will be split into Pre- and Post Crisis and we're sure Bloodwork will be dealt with at some stage just before the 'Crisis'.

Guess we'll know the answers to all of these when 'The Flash' season 6 zooms in on October 8 on The CW.
