LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It is true that the ‘Batman 2’ sequel hasn’t been given a greenlight yet by Warner Bros Discovery of late. As we are getting a sleuth of gigantic changes coming in the DC Universe under the Warner Bros and Discovery merger with David Zaslav as the new CEO, now it seems like the ‘Batman’ sequel isn’t a sure thing as it had been officially confirmed by makers at the CinemaCon 2022 panel.

As of now the sequel to the Robert Pattinson starrer film is in developmental stages only which means that the film is definitely stuck in limbo. According to a new report from Variety dated August 11, “Writer-director Matt Reeves is on track for a sequel with star Robert Pattinson, but the project remains in development and does not yet have a greenlit – any future film is years away.”

Back in the spring of this year, the former Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich had told the CinemaCon crowd something quite different about The Batman sequel which was, “Matt Reeves took one of our most iconic and beloved superheroes and delivered a fresh vision that clearly resonated with audiences and with your incredible support, shattered box office records around the world, which is one of the reasons I'm excited to break the news that Matt, Rob Pattinson, and the whole team will be taking audiences back to Gotham with The Batman 2.”

The question of where Batman fits into the DC franchise is at the forefront in present. Zaslav has made huge unexpected changes that seem focused on the Batman side of things right from axing the ‘Batgirl’ movie despite being completed alongside Michael Keaton's version of Batman which was originally set to be a main supporting figure in ‘The Flash’ before becoming DC's "Nick Fury" by appearing in 'Batgirl', 'Aquaman 2' and other films. Ben Affleck's Batman has been brought back by makers to make an appearance in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ after he first appears in ‘Flash', whether Affleck is stepping back into the character full-time or just finishing an arc to make way for a new Batman would be interesting to watch now.

This news of ‘Batman 2’ not being greenlit by Warner Bros had been confirmed by Discussing Films on their Twitter handle on August 12.

As soon as this news got revealed, fans started bashing the makers for not greenlighting the ‘Batman 2’ sequel, and some of them feeling amused added that till the script for big films like these isn’t complete, makers can’t greenlight a movie so it is not a scary thing.

“I will BURN WB to the ground. Don't f*** with this universe, PLEASE,” said a fan. “I’m fighting everyone if it gets canceled,” added another fan. “Based on the length of the last one that’s going to take awhile,” a fan shared. “The Batman is only movie holding DC up right now … so that’s funny,” a fan mentioned. "I understand, and the wait will be worth it it, but realistically we’re looking at a 2025 date right? They should film 2-3 back to back," a fan shared. "Just make it official as soon as possible!," a fan noted. "Oh great. More fuel for the Snyder cultists. Doesnt matter, This isn't news because a film doesn't usually get greenlit until the script is finished," a fan shared.

As of now, it is true that 'The Batman' franchise is still continuing to expand into an HBO Max TV series focused solely on ‘Thirteen Lives’ star Colin Farrell's character of Penguin after the events of the first film. So it's not really shocking to hear that 'The Batman 2' could still be years away. If ‘The Penguin’ series needs to come down the production pipeline first then it would be made a priority.
