'The 100' Series Finale Preview: One last battle to find out if there really are any 'good guys'

'The 100' has many questions to answer in one hour before it ends and we hope that it does it well

"There are no good guys," versus, "Be the good guys." Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) says the first dialogue in a previous season on 'The 100'. Monty Green (Christopher Larkin) said the other in his final episode during Season 5. The CW post-apocalyptic show is coming to an end after a thought-provoking and often, controversial run and these dialogues seem to be the best to reflect upon as we near the close. There is one final episode left and 'The 100' is seemingly trying to tilt more towards Clarke's perspective. But if anything, all the characters around her -- the ones who began as supporting characters and others who still are, remind us that Monty had a right to believe in hope for humanity.

The previous episode of 'The 100' was probably what most of the seventh and final season had to offer in terms of pace and tension. A lot happened and it is such a pity to have waited until the penultimate episode to get that. It is no wonder that fans are worried whether this week's series finale will be a satisfying one at all. It makes us wonder if so much was possible in the 15th episode, why did we not get that before? So much of the final season was spent on the turmoil brewing in Sanctum and that was wiped away in minutes with the arrival of Bill Cadogan (John Pyper-Ferguson).

Then, of course, there are the horrifying deaths that seemed to have been done purely for the shock factor. First, there was Bellamy Blake (Bob Morley) and then there was Gabriel Santiago (Chuku Modu). In the previous episode, there was the horrifying decision where Madi Griffin (Lola Flannery) was left locked in by Cadogan's torture. Clarke simply makes the decision to end her life, which viewers have pointed out is a very ableist take. Before Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos) can pull the trigger, they run to stop Cadogan.

So much of the current season has been questionable and yet, as longtime fans we keep coming back. Now, there is just one final episode left where everything is set to come to an end. There is a last war to stop. If it is stopped, what was the point of the whole season, you may wonder. There are people to save and there are battles to be fought. Cadogan is hellbent on being a godlike figure who tortured a child to get the code. There is no telling how far he will go and there is no telling what could happen if he does unlock it.

Meanwhile, we also have Emori (Luisa D'Oliveira) fighting for her life, with her boyfriend John Murphy (Richard Harmon) and her friends, Raven Reyes (Lindsey Morgan) and Eric Jackson (Sachin Sahel) doing all they can to save her. Is it ominous that when the second half of the phrase, "Their fight is over," flashes over Emori's body? It may as well be at this point. Will Monty's son, Jordan Green (Shannon Kook) be proven right? 'The 100' has many questions to answer in one hour and we hope that it does it well.

'The 100' series finale airs on Wednesday, September 30, on The CW at 8/7c. Watch the promo for this week's episode below.
