What is wrong with Jamie Tartt?

While Jamie, Sam, and Roy attend a press conference before their big match against Manchester City, Jamie is asked a question to which he responds weirdly. Roy quickly comes in for support, but he is sure that something is wrong with Jamie. When they return to the locker room, Jamie doesn’t tease his co-player, which catches Roy's attention. He summons Jamie to meet him in the Boot Room. Unexpectedly, Jamie, who used to make others cry, starts crying.

Once a cocky and arrogant athlete, Jamie is now portrayed as someone who apologizes for his actions and sympathizes. Nervous and depressed about everything happening around him, he is worried about the match and feels his "wings are lost.” Roy asks Keeley’s help as Keeley is the one closest to Jamie and knows him well. However, Keeley’s attempt to save Jamie backfires, and he feels more terrible as he now knows that fans are trolling him over his hair. After the team gathers to watch the movie, Jamie leaves on a secret journey followed by Roy and Keeley. Jamie catches them and takes them to his mom’s house. The episode reveals that Jamie is a "mama’s boy" as he curls up with her on the couch and confesses his feelings for playing against his abusive father’s favorite team. Jamie also has a poster of Roy and Keeley in his room, showcasing his deep love for them.

What happened to Jamie Tartt during the match?

When Jamie scored a goal, his leg was injured badly. He was about to get replaced, but Ted asked for waiting time as he believed in Jamie. While Jamie is looking up for his father, Ted approaches him and asks him to make a bold decision - about forgiving his father. Jamie uses his hatred for his father as motivation and Ted points out that it is not about forgiving him but forgiving yourself. This surely ignites something in Jamie, who scores a solo goal and wins the match.

The episode ended with Nate’s comeback to the Greyhounds, a long reunion everyone was waiting for. It was a well-deserved ode to Jamie as it touched on themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and mothers and has definitely built up an emotional side for the upcoming finale.

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 is streaming on Apple TV+.
