'SYTYCD' Season 17: Ralyn Johnson impresses judges with contemporary piece, fans declare her 'winner'

When it comes to the 'SYTYCD' stage, it is all about passion, talent, and the skill to back it all up! As per the Season 17 synopsis -- "The upcoming season will feature highly skilled dancers between the ages of 18 and 30, showcasing their talents in various dance styles, including contemporary, tap, hip-hop, ballroom, animation, breaking, and more. Those who are selected to move on to the 'SYTYCD' studio will work with world-renowned choreographers and compete each week in a variety of styles, with brand-new twists and turns introduced into the competition."'

Up until now, the auditions have seen a range of genres when it comes to dancing, with the likes of Keaton Kermode, Beau Harmon, James T, and Brianna impressing the judges with their performances. But there is still a long road ahead.

For 18-year-old Ralyn Johnson, dance is an integral part of who she is, seeing that her routine literally boils down to school, track practice and then dance practice, a schedule that she repeats day in and day out. However, during the 2021 floods in Louisiana, her life changed, as her house was destroyed in the calamity. While Ralyn stayed strong for the sake of her family, she felt scared and lost on the inside. But what's here dance helped her overcome. Bringing that energy to the stage, she performed a wonderful contemporary piece, that had the judges fawning over her. JoJo Siwa did have constructive criticism, stating that she felt as though Ralyn was holding back and wanted to see her go all out. tWitch was quick to jump in and state that he thought otherwise, noting that he 'loved it'. Ralyn made it to choreography and fans were in awe of her as well. 
"Ralyn clearly understands suspension and not letting movement die when it technically “ends.” GO OFF.  #SYTYCD" tweeted a fan. "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I THINK WE FOUND OUR WINNER #sytycd" said a fan. "She moves so smoothly. It’s beautiful to watch #SYTYCD" added another. "The grace, the emotion, the strength of Ralyn's performance #SYTYCD" wrote a fan. 



 



 



 



 

'So You Think You Can Dance' Season 17 airs on Wednesdays at 9pm ET/PT.
