2021 MAMA presenter Super Junior Siwon to miss event after testing Covid-19 positive
It seems like the novel Coronavirus has no plans of stopping anytime soon and this time it is SuJu’s Siwon who has tested Covid-19 positive. As the year 2020 seemed to progress slowly, K-pop idols moved into the new normal of online schedules without contact with contemporaries and fans but that was until Covid-19 vaccinations began.
A new wave of the virus is now hitting the industry as many idols and celebrities are testing positive for the virus. On the late evening of December 10, SM Entertainment, the agency that manages the veteran group, Super Junior (SuJu) announced to fans that member Siwon of the group had tested Covid positive.

SuJu’s Siwon tests positive
Choi Siwon, who is not only an idol but an actor as well, has been very active in the industry for a while now. Being in the industry for so long, he is loved and respected by many. In the upcoming 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) Ceremony, Siwon was shortlisted as a presenter but it looks like the singer will have to miss the event altogether.
In their statement regarding Siwon’s condition, SM Entertainment noted that the singer had already completed his second vaccination as of September 2021. The statement mentioned that as part of his pre-emptive test ahead of his upcoming schedule, Choi Siwon underwent a Covid-19 PCR test. The result of said test declared him a positive case of Covid-19.
Siwon skips MAMA 2021 appearance
It is reported that since Siwon himself is asymptomatic, he will be in isolation while other members of Super Junior who were in close contact with the singer also received their tests on the morning of December 10 and are on standby. Since all members of Super Junior have already been vaccinated, they are all currently asymptomatic and trying their best to comply with the health guidelines set by the Health Department and are in quarantine until they recover.
Due to his testing positive only a day ahead of MAMA 2021, the biggest K-pop award show of the year, Choi Siwon will not be attending the ceremony where he was set to appear as a special presenter for the night. At the 2021 MAMA, Siwon was shortlisted as a presenter alongside artists and entertainers like Rain, Song Joong-ki, Ahn Bo-hyun, Yeo Jin-goo, Lee Do-hyun, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung, and Tiffany, Heo Sung-tae, and many others.
Performances at MAMA 2021
Not only those, but the 2021 MAMA ceremony will also feature an artist lineup including aespa, Ateez, Brave Girls, British singer Ed Sheeran, Enhypen ITZY, NCT 127, NCT Dream, NCT U, Stray Kids, TXT, Wanna One, and the ‘Street Woman Fighter’ dance crews.
The ceremony will be hosted by Lee Hyori and will be broadcast live on December 11 at 6 pm KST (4 am ET). Earlier last week it was announced that Mnet’s ‘Girls Planet 999’ group Kep1er was going to make their first appearance at the ceremony but that was also canceled due to a Covid-19 case among Kep1er’s staff members.
