LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix's 'Squid Game' has caused quite a stir in the cinema world since its release in 2021. The plot of the show was an out-of-the-box idea that was introduced to us by the creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, who took inspiration from an innocent game called 'Squid', also known as 'ojingŏ', a children's game played in South Korea. Although Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger, it did nudge to a revenge arc of Seong Gi-hun played by Lee Jung-jae that will ensue in Season 2.

There are many speculations that the upcoming season of Netflix hit-show 'Squid Games' will not be about the games anymore, but about revenge and the foundation of how the games came to be. Season 1 was dark in terms of gore and bloodshed, but Season 2 will unearth the moral grounds of human beings and will tell the story of how the masked guards from the show found their way into the games.

A major reveal in the first season was of the mysterious masked frontman Hwang In-ho, Hwang Jun-ho's ex-cop brother. Jun-ho was blinded by the fact that his brother has died competing in the game, but everything changed by the end of Season 1. It was revealed that In-ho had won and instead of leaving the game and starting a new life, he chose to become the right-hand man of the creator and run the cruel game of killing and since became the leader of the masked guards. But, instead of delving into their background story, it was just a swing from the surface. But, season 2 will have more of In-ho and the guard's background and will go deeper into their origin of them.

In an interview with Forbes, the creator of 'Squid Games' revealed that the upcoming season will foresee much more of In-ho and his police background. It will touch on the topics of police brutality, bribery, and police issues that he experienced. According to the creator, it isn't just a part of South Korea, but the entire world. "I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea." he said, "I see it on the global news. This was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season two, I can talk about this more." according to Forbes. The whole foundation of 'Squid Games' stands on the societal corruption that affects the poverty-stricken community more than the powerful and rich people. The show revolves around the need and wants of a human being that cancels out every possibility of survival law and rules out money as the running factor. The game takes in people who are poor and in need of money, in exchange for their life. To put it simply, it defines that human life is balanced out on the same scale as money.

How did the guards end up in the game?

While the first season focuses on the players and their backgrounds, fans have speculated that season 2 will be more about the guards and how they ended up in the messed up game. Fans have also come up with theories that tell about all the guards having a background working as a cop, and being kicked out due to some unethical practices, like Hwang In-ho, a South Korean police officer who was involved in bribery, which was likely the cause of money problems which made him participate in the games. So, the blue team of the game is chosen following the people with bad family situations, who are in dire need of money. Maybe the red team is chosen from the group of ex-cops who have been caught participating in unethical means and are removed from the force. But, the question that lingers is why would an ex-cop develop such a deep liking to hurt and kill. what will be the reason to develop a deep disregard for human life? Guess, only season 2 will be able to answer all of our questions.
