With the American award season beginning, prestigious events are dropping information like airdates and nominations. And we have South Korea gradually taking over. We first had the global K-pop group BTS break records at the 2021 MTV EMAs, AMAs, People’s Choice Awards and the 2022 Grammys. And now we have the popular Netflix K-drama ‘Squid Game’ landing not one but three Golden Globe nominations for 2022.

The international phenomenon became the most-watched Netflix show with over 94 countries and 142 million members watching it in the first four weeks. The Korean language drama ‘Squid Game’ surpassed the 2020 show ‘Bridgerton’ to become the most-watched show and is now getting recognized for it. We first had Primetime Emmy reporting that the show was eligible for a nomination if it was sent in. This would make ‘Squid Game’ the first Korean drama to be nominated at the American TV award show.
