Solar and Moonbyul confirm sub-unit debut, Mamamoo fans excited for 'MILF line'

Mamamoo's Solar and Moonbyul have already collaborated on several events like the duet 'Promise U' in 2021

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Mamamoo continues to prove that they are here to stay and that the 7-year K-pop curse cannot stop them. After celebrating their 7th debut anniversary with the mini-album ‘WAW’ and its concert, a compilation album, and its Japanese edition, the girls have been focusing on their solo careers. Wheein, Solar and Moonbyul made solo comebacks while Hwasa is a regular at K-pop music festivals. With Solar and Moonbyul creating a YouTube series to tease their next project, fans were sure that they would be forming a sub-unit.

Well, Moomoos (Mamamoo’s fans) were not wrong. Following the hilarious episodes of ‘Looking for a new member of Mamamoo’, Solar and Moonbyul teased that if they don’t find a new member, they will themselves re-debut. And it wasn’t far from the truth. On August 22, their label RBW confirmed that Moonbyul and Solar would indeed be debuting in Mamamoo’s first sub-unit. The actual debut date and album details will be revealed later.

Solar and Moonbyul to form sub-unit

Mamamoo is a popular third-gen girl group that debuted in 2014 and has several hit singles like ‘Hip’, ‘Aya’ and ‘Gogobebe’. The members are all successful soloists with leader Solar also branching out and making her theatre debut with the musical ‘Mata Hari’. Moonbyul on the other hand is busy with TV programs like the reality show ‘Kick A Goal’, the survival show ‘The Second World’. and her first solo overseas concert in Japan which took place on August 20.

With Solar and Moonbyul being the oldest of the group, they are often called the parents of Mamamoo and fans love their chemistry. We already got a taste of their sub-unit when they released the duet ‘Promise U’ back in 2021. Apart from the sub-unit, we are also set to get a full group comeback soon while there are rumors of Hwasa and Wheein's next solo singles. 

‘The power these two hold’

Fans are excited as they have taken to trending both the girls on Twitter. One fan joked, “MAMAMOO’s milf line is debuting as a subunit.” With Moonbyul and Solar also releasing YouTube content, another said, “Moonsun coming out as youtube collabers before coming out as a subunit.” One wrote, “I APOLOGIZE FOR THE PERSON I’LL BECOME WHEN THIS MOONSUN SUBUNIT DROPS.” Another said, “Moonsun subunit where the concept is they’re trying recruit a new member for mamamoo and no one showed up to audition so they ended up making a unit themselves.”

With the girls having packed schedules, another asked, “Moonsun have like 56 hours in a day cause for real where the f**k did the find the time.” One was excited, “CONFIRMED MOONSUN SUB-UNIT DEBUT coming right up 🐰🐹 BADA BOOM was a tease and we all know it was coming but still can’t believe it ~ oh the power these two hold just listen to this🔥💥🌟 I’m so stoked!” Another hoped, “OK BUT IMAGINE MOONSUN SUBUNIT WITH THIS KIND OF CONCEPT.”

Another said, “Moonsun's unit could be the most aesthetic pleasing kpop act if they really get into it .. their names are literally MOONbyul and yongSUN like their unit concept needs to be based on that.” Someone chimed in, “I swear I would love to see a unit cb between Moonbyul & Solar going further with the concept of their names. I remember seeing this fanart of them being goddesses of the moon and sun, I haven't been able to move from it ever since…” Another shared, “Moonsun are so funny i can’t believe they’ve made an entire new youtube channel for this.”
