Not all contestants on 'American Idol' get the golden ticket despite giving their best performance. Sadly, Skylie Thompson, a 17-year-old high-school student from Oklahoma was one of the contestants who failed to secure the golden ticket to Hollywood from the judges.

Skylie was accompanied by her father Davy Thomspon, who played the guitar while she sang. The judges- Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, immediately recognized the raw talent in her but felt that she needed some more time to really hone in her vocal and singing skills. So, the judges said no to her. Lionel explained his decision by saying that his no was an "optimistic no" as he wanted her to come back later and try again. Katy too urged the teenager to put in the work and come back when she was ready. Luke felt really bad watching her get emotional, so he gave her a yes, as he felt her performance didn't deserve three nos. Luke too seconded his fellow judges and urged Skylie to not give up and continue practicing.
