The boy group BTS is going to make a comeback this week and a lot of attention is on the group during this time. The boy group became the first-ever K-pop act to be invited to the White House in the US to discuss Anti-Asian Hate Crimes with President Joe Biden. Every time BTS visits the United States, there is always news about collaboration. Be it Nicki Minaj or Halsey from the past or Megan Thee Stallion or Coldplay more recently, BTS’ collaborations with International artists are just as big a hits as their own songs which is why a new collaboration has been rumored. But, this time, it seems like fans are not exactly ecstatic about this one.

In the last few weeks, fans noticed that American singer and record producer, Charlie Puth has been constantly making shoutouts for BTS which seemed questionable to many fans. BTS fans wondered if this meant that the singer was working on a collaboration with the boys while others thought that the singer was trying to clout-chase from the boy group’s recent visit to America. During the trip, BTS met Coldplay’s Chris Martin and his entourage as well as the American singer, H.E.R but since there was no update posted about Charlie, fans were not sure if they could expect a collab soon. Now, the singer has himself confirmed a collab with the boy group but the reactions to the news are not quite favorable.

Charlie Puth hints at a collab with BTS

On June 5, Charlie Puth appeared at the iHeart Radio Wango Tango concert. During his interview with 102.7KIISFM, the singer revealed that he would be dropping his new album in September of 2022. When he was asked about his recent posts about BTS and whether it meant that a collaboration with the boy group is possible, the singer dropped a confusing statement. Charlie said, “I heard that too, and everybody in my camp doesn't know the day it comes out.” The singer added that he has already worked on a song with BTS but is not sure when it would drop. With the release of this statement, fans are not sure if Charlie has worked on a collab with all the members of BTS or if it’s a solo with Jungkook for his highly-anticipated mixtape - JJK1.

Why do BTS fans dislike Charlie Puth?

Over the years of BTS’ growth in the USA, fans have come to learn about Jungkook’s love for artists like Justin Bieber and Charlie Puth among many others. The BTS maknae was able to share a stage with Charlie when he sang a duet with him at the 2018 MBC Plus Genie Awards. The duo sang Charlie Puth’s famous single, ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ featuring Selena Gomez and during the awards ceremony, Jungkook sang Gomez’s parts shocking fans. While their initial interaction was sweet, fans were quick to notice how the boy group was not able to gel with Charlie and the whole interaction between them seemed forced.

Not only that but soon after his collaboration with Jungkook, the singer deleted all of his posts with the boy group. Then two years later, in 2020 the singer started tweeting about BTS again ahead of the release of Charlie’s new single which had fans questioning the random attention he was giving to BTS. Fans concluded that the singer was doing this for clout and given the fact that BTS’ maknae really adored the singer, it was very likely that his fans would rush to interact with Charlie’s new song. This was after Jungkook tweeted about Justin Bieber’s new single, ‘Yummy’ which got a lot of attention from BTS fans.

‘I have a bad feeling’

With the news of BTS’ or Jungkook’s new collaboration with Charlie, fans of BTS are giving their blessing to Jungkook but are not really ecstatic about the boy group working with Charlie Puth. One fan said, “Welp. Wasn’t expecting this again. I have a bad feeling something will happen once that collab is announced. Cause I do remember some people calling him out or saying he used BTS for clout. Not even sure if that was even true or not.” One more fan said, “Uhmm. No…” One fan said, “Don't know how i feel about that but i will support JK No matter what.” Another fan said, “I love his music jungkook loves his music too I hope he is not using them for…” One fan said, “Hope not.” One more fan said, “It's just JK it's so understood! Charlie is way too transparent.”
