'Shōgun' Episode 5 Preview: Lord Yoshii Toranaga to strip his son Yoshii Nagakado from his regiment duties
Contains spoilers for 'Shōgun' Episode 4
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The newest historical series on FX, 'Shōgun', transports viewers to the riveting feudal Japan, where rivalries for power were at their most intense.
The intricate web of political intrigue, with five lords at the core of the power struggle, is accurately depicted in the series.
The Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks-created series is a cinematic version of James Clavell's best-selling book of the same name.
The fourth episode, titled 'The Eightfold Fence', contained no noteworthy war-related events until the grisly bloodshed deceit at the very end.
Nonetheless, with all the plotting Kashigi Omi (Hiroto Kanai) was doing, it was clear that the episode was setting the stage for the approaching conflict.
His cunning scheme also succeeded when he got Yoshii Nagakado (Yuki Kura), the son of Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) to kill the messengers of the regent.
What will happen in 'Shōgun' Episode 5?
The final minutes of the previous episode show how Nagakado murders the regent's messenger with such brutality that it's equivalent to declaring war.
It was evident from their assassination that this was only a tease for the forthcoming slew of bloody scenes. Now, it would be interesting to watch how Toranaga responds to his son's foolish decision in the fifth episode. It's possible that he might strip Nagakado of his responsibilities within the military.
Furthermore, the growing fondness between Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai) and John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) was clearly visible in the fourth episode as they began a sexual connection. This suggests that future episodes will feature more of their relationship.
Additionally, the forthcoming episode may delve deeper into Mariko's past, which she just hinted at in the last episode.
When will 'Shōgun' Episode 5 air?
The fifth episode of the series, titled 'Broken to the Fist', is set to air on March 19.
The episode, written by Matt Lambert, will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye.
In keeping with its other episodes, the upcoming one will have a run time of 50–60 minutes.
The series premiered with its first two episodes on February 27, 2024, on Hulu and FX. The subsequent episodes are scheduled to be released weekly.
