LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The ongoing historical drama onAppleTV+, 'Shōgun,' unfolds against the backdrop of political intrigue in feudal Japan.

After accepting the title of Hatamoto from Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), Blackthorne was optimistic that he would soon sail his ship with his troops to his hometown.

However, his hopes were soon dashed when he discovered that his men had been transported to Edo and that he was not even permitted to board his ship Erasmus without Toranaga's approval.

His anger skyrockets as he discovers that he will have to teach Toranaga's troops for at least six months.

Later, Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai) introduces Blackthorne to his new residence, staff, and official salary as he assumes the role of Hatamoto.

He was astounded to learn that he will also have a consort, Usami Fuji (Moeka Hoshi), which he flatly refuses to accept since he believes it is far too much for his liking and that he will never bed anyone unless he is interested.

With a rocky start to their relationship, Blackthorne continued keeping Fuji at bay but he quickly developed sympathy for her as soon as he discovered his husband and son were executed by Ishido Kazuna (Takehiro Hira).

Blackthorne was left impressed with Fuji when she brandished her gun at his opponent, Kashigi Omi (Hiroto Kanai), during a heated altercation.

Later that night, the man gave Fuji his firearms as a token of his regret for his harsh treatment of her. He even offers to teach her how to handle the weapons.

Satisfied with Blackthorne, Fuji gives him her family sword, clearly expressing her disapproval of the fact that she is the consort of a man who does not even own a sword.

Touched by her gesture, the man agrees to carry the sword for Fuji's delight.

The series premiered with its first two episodes on February 27, 2024, on Hulu and FX. The subsequent episodes are scheduled to be released weekly.
